Okay, some rules will be made as we bumble along.... 1. Folk who are registered can edit or delete their posts within 30 minutes. If you still have poster's remorse after that, ask me to delete your post. But I will probably only substitute your whole post with a note to say it was changed at your request. 2. If a post is deemed contentious, then it will be moved to the "Cooler" thread at the bottom of the Forum. Generally, posts will be deleted after a while in the cooler. 3. etc.... |

This post is about intangible rules, but first I want to share an e-mail with you: "To Gerald and Co, 18 months ago I became enthusiastic about building a half decent cnc router. For 6 months I read forums and diy sites, chased plans and directions to start the mechanical build. Living out in remote ******** added its own problems...... Basically confusion reigned - although I now have a nice set of steppers and controllers sitting on my desk - they go round and round and leds flicker on the controller boards. :o) I gave up and built some valve stereo amps and a nice turntable. 6 months ago, I returned to searching cnc sites for a starting point. "Almost" brought some plans, but again, information and contrary information confused me and dulled my enthusiasm. Tonight however, up pops your site... ! Your free plans are to be commended along with the forums - what a pleasure to read such level headed, informative and constructive threads in such a continuous fashion. So, to your and your colleagues, thank you very much indeed. My enthusiasm has been fired once more and I now feel confident in the undertaking as "proper" help appears only a forum away. Kindest regards and more thanks, ****" There are lots of forums out there whose prime aim is the number of members, number of posts, and other statistics. They pride themselves on being able to offer avatars, signature lines and other bling-bling. I feel that they those forums are big time-wasters and get taken over by the armchair brigade who rarely get their hands dirty. On this forum I try to focus hard on building a specific size and style of machine and distractions are removed as far as possible. Regrettably I had to ask the first person to stop posting this week - his interests appeared more to just chat and find friends, and eventually he stated that he wants to go 1/4-sized. Sorry, but I didn't start this project to chat to guys who want to build scale models. As the mail above confirmed for me, there is a definite demand for a focussed, structured approach on plans and forum. Some things are going to get cut and moved and please accept that I don't make a personal issue of this. So, let me apologise in advance if you are going to land up in front of this forum's broom one day. |
