What are you cutting with your machine. If doing fine detail 3d work I would not recommend a Spur Gear because of the backlash that will always be present in a gearbox. I would recommend a stepper with a belt reduction instead.

I cut exterior fretwork mainly 1 inch, and 1.25" Extira.

Even with belt reduction you're going to get some unsavory indications of the gears themselves.
