Customized Gas Spring

Found a local vendor who can supply customised gaspring in small quantity. as small as 1 unit. :-)

He is quoting me US$40 a pop :) :)
with choice of mounting as well :) :) :)

Now, what will be the dream physical dimension and spec of this gas spring?

I am be willing to organise a group buy for the benifit of fellow MM builders.

You can delete those data in the from and fill in yours....we left those data there so that you can have an idea what info we need to build the gas spring for you.

If you need other mounting type(eg L-plate), kindly speficy details.

I'll try to redraw what I understand from it.

I am interested to see;
- the major outside diameter (max of 22mm will fit)
- the diam and length of the threads at the ends (I presume both male ends)
- lengths measured from the shoulders of those threads

Regarding the charge pressure, realise that some guys use heavy spindles, others light routers, so there won't be one specification for everybody.

The price of $40 is not attractive - we also have them made to spec in Cape Town (also one at a time) and the price is about $12 - $15 each

Anyhow, this is the last component on my shopping list which I hope to find a local supplier, at least I know where to buy an expensive gas spring now. :p

Ken, our gas spring suppliers are linked to auto spare parts shops. These springs are common on tailgates (the big folding up doors) on the back of hatchback cars and small trucks/busses. The spares shops keep some uncharged ones in stock and then charge with nitrogen gas to a specific load (kilogram) requirement. The charging device is ridiculously simple (and cheap). I think you could find less expensive springs if you shop around some more.
