Laser cut parts shipped out from Sweet Home Alabama

I have found a place that will cut, engrave part number, and bend 25 parts for $375.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am getting the first lot (The Mamba with geared motors) cut and bent to see if there any glitches.
The rail skate is included in this as well!!
I have not gotten a prices for the Classic version. So let me know if you would want me to check into that.

I would like to give thanks to Gerald D. and Evey one else who has helped in making this possible, Without Yall....we would just be living dull lives.

Joe,

Please let us know ASAP about the quality. This is quite interesting. I will be anxiously awaiting the answer.

sailfl Fri 01 February 2008 15:18

Joe,

Inquire if they will pack them for shipping and how much. This is a very good price.

Thanks

jbmclain Fri 01 February 2008 15:41

I tried not to do a back flip in there office when he quoted me the price. The shipping will have to be on my shoulders though. They were extremely fast getting me a quote. We will see how long it takes to cut and bend.
I think its my time to help out because I'll be asking lots of question later:o:)

What types of motors is everyone leaning toward (Geared or Direct)?

Doug_Ford Fri 01 February 2008 19:43

Joe,

Geared motors are what Gerald is currently recommending.

smreish Fri 01 February 2008 19:45

...and the Universal motor template works well with the OM 7.2 series motors I just mounted a few weeks ago.

myozman Fri 01 February 2008 20:09

Joe, that sounds great. Let us know if you can help with shipping.

MIKE

jbmclain Fri 01 February 2008 20:37

I forgot to mention that I added an extra Motor Plate M510314 for those who might add an extra motor on Y car.

I don't think they work on the weekends, but let me know who is going order one and zip codes so I can figure exact shipping + insurance to You.

44122 is mine.

Gerald D Sat 02 February 2008 12:31

I'm lost - what are those 4**** numbers?

Marc Shlaes Sat 02 February 2008 12:33

US postal codes to calculate shipping

Gerald D Sat 02 February 2008 12:43

Everybody with a 4 in front? that looks like a waste of a digit :)

sailfl Sat 02 February 2008 13:03

Gerald,

Not so! For example one location in Washington DC has 20012.

My zip is 32789 for the 5 digit code. People are suppose to use the full nine digits which for me is 32789 3333. The first 5 digits give you the post office. The additional 4 locate the street.

Marc Shlaes Sat 02 February 2008 13:14

So there is a big coincidence of "4" MM'ers. Cold winter dreams!

myozman Sat 02 February 2008 14:11

Midwest winter projects.:)

KevinL Sat 02 February 2008 16:57

jbmclain Sun 03 February 2008 16:55

Counting me, that’s 9.

Someone send Gerald D. some Tylenol.
He will have a large headache with all these builds.

mattbyrne Mon 04 February 2008 11:23

Count me in 60502

ekdenton Tue 05 February 2008 16:33

I would like to join in also if it is not too late.
Zip code is 88310

I have a UPS account so I could call for a pickup and would only need my parts boxed up for shipping.

DaFlea Tue 05 February 2008 19:02

I am new to the project and have been working on a small scale CNC which is nearing completion. I am interested in the laser cut parts for a larger scale project however I am still looking over the plans and reading posts in the forums.
Is this quote for all the parts for the MechMate or is this for some of the more complex pieces.
Birmingham is just 3 hours away so I would be able to pick up allot easier than shipping. Just wanted to make sure what was included.

Doug

Doug_Ford Tue 05 February 2008 19:21

Doug,

Those are the more complex parts that have to be cut and bent. You still need to supply the tubes for the gantry and all of the steel in the table assembly.

Doug

DaFlea Tue 05 February 2008 20:18

OK,

Well I got my hands on the Options Excel file.. Thanks Joe for the PM

So to get an idea on how much I will spend on just the metal to build the Mamba's super structure not including all the electronics and other expensive tid bits what an I looking at.

$375.00 Laser cut and bends for the more detailed pieces
$???.?? For the rest of the gantry and table assembly

Thanks,

Doug aka The other Doug

I have a steel distribution warehouse, and I priced the structural materials for just the table. This is not including the ground angle iron rail for the V rollers.
I came up with aprox. $425.00 using 7" channel for the main runners. It would be probably $25 more or less using 6" or 8" channel, but that should be a ballpark estimate, if you purchase from a steel distributer rather than a welding shop.
You can't get 2 pcs. 131.9in. out of one 20ft pc. even if the channel runs a couple of inches long(usually do) and you are carefull with the angle cutt, at best you will only be able to get 2-126in. pcs. the plan shows 131.9in. if you don't want the rail overhanging. If I am reading that correct

Gerald D Wed 06 February 2008 09:08

Ed, are you not looking at the 9 foot table that I built here in SA? Most guys are building 8 ft tables and therefore they manage with one length.

oops. Yes I was looking at the upper drawing, showing 131.9in., rather than the blue drawing just below showing the two pcs. layout on a 20ft bar.

DaFlea Wed 06 February 2008 21:55

Joe,

I attempted to send you a PM but its saying your not able to recive them. Anyway send me a PM with your number and a convent time to call and I will get in touch with you.

Doug

GregA Thu 07 February 2008 08:06

I'm still interested in this if someone can send me a mail with details of latest news...

[email protected]

DaFlea Thu 07 February 2008 17:17

Greg,

I spoke with Joe this afternoon and he is waiting for the parts to be completed so he can verify their quality and fit. We’re looking at another week or so for the results.

Doug

stefanv Sat 09 February 2008 08:32

Nils, are you ordering with the Alabama group, or are you waiting for the FL group with Sean?
Stefan ( 33182 :) )

sailfl Sat 09 February 2008 09:26

I sent a PM to Sean to see what the status is with the guy he has been working with in Orlando. I have not heard back from him. I suspect that it will be cheaper to buy from him. So most likely I will buy from Sean's source. I will use the Alabama source as a backup.

Thanks for asking.

smreish Sat 09 February 2008 19:17

nils
I'll check and see on Monday the status of my parts run and final pricing. I sent the mm parts with another order. Of course, the mm parts were a
low priority. I will press them for a time and price. Sean

jbmclain Sat 09 February 2008 19:56

I'm going to do the same. Patient IS NOT virtue.

sailfl Sun 10 February 2008 02:05

Sean,

Thanks for checking. My priority is low right now but there maybe others that would buy from Orlando now.

jbmclain Thu 14 February 2008 13:27

Parts

Everyone, the one off parts should be ready tomorrow!! They are at the fabricator now being bent. I want to take some pictures and measure the thicknesses to make sure all the parts are going to be correct.
I will post pictures of all the parts to let everyone know exactly what they are getting.
Also to anyone who is thinking of making a MM (Mamba) please add yourselves to the list to order a set, so I can tell them to cut a specific number of sets.

Thanks
Joe

Well Guys, I spoke too soon. It will be Monday before I get the test parts.:(:(
I do have some good news.....
My Father N Law has about 400 of the exact bearing that we will need for the Rail Skate. He wants $1 Per Bearing. They are brand new and sealed bearings. :D

Attachment 974

So let me know if you want me to add these to the Parts.

Joe
