After some time studying the info, finally we are on our way (My son and me).
We almost finish the table. We have already the laser cut parts, next week we will begin building the Y car and the X rails. We are the waiting for the bearings. We are working this week in the electronics (Drivers, Stepers, PS etc.) We attach some pictures of our work. |
Welcome!

At last we finished painting the table.
Next monday we'll fight with Gantry, Y car and rails, wish us good luck!. :D |
That is some speedy work! You should be making wood dust in no time!
Welcome! |
Nice work!
|
Thank you Justin, we are making our best!!!
|
Thanks Heath, Mike, Stefan, Ken. Thanks Eugene Beaufort Crain III
We are truly motivated and happy because we are sure that we'll see the light very soon!!!! and begin making noise and wood dust |
Very nice, and fast, work guys.
Keep the pictures coming. :) |
You guys seem to be really forging ahead. Great progress. :)

Here we are!!!.
Today we finish cutting the rails (after some 20 cutting disks!!!!), we will begin grinding the angles. In the pictures below we show how are we doing things. We also begin to orginize the electronics, as you can see in the pictures. We know that round motors are old tech, but those motors are the only thing we have, so we are thinking about using a belt reduction scheme. Comments are very welcome. Rafael & Rafael. |

working on the rails !!!!

Here we are again, this week we will work on the rails (X and Y), we tried tu use the classicalk skate but we found it not so easy to work with.
We decided to use a small CNC amchine to grind the rails, the result were not so bad, as you can see in the following pictures. We also posted a small video, this is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XExmmSlB2-E We are on our way !!!! |
Looks like the small version of how Shopbot once made the rails for their machines before moving to the pre-ground, hardened rails in use today. Innovative.
|
Now I have seen everything !!! Some of you guys are so innovative and lazy at the same time it amazes me... :) My grandpa told me one time before he passed away that if you want to find a quick way to do something just watch a lazy guy and you will find what you have been searching for..
Great job and thanks for the video.. Regards, James |
rceja:
Muy bonito, felicitaciones en su nuevo machina! Como esta todo en Guadalajara? Keep up the good work. Joe |
muchas gracias, Guadalajara como siempre, bella y hospitalaria.
Thank you very much, your comments make us feel that we are in the right way |
Thanks a lot for your comments James, we are very motivated because things goes well.
We will post new pictures as soon as we advance in the construction of the MM |
A small step ahead!!!!!

Today we test the movementg of the gantry, all of the 4 bearing make unifor contact with the rail, the gantry is properly leveled. It's running safe and easy. Tomorrow we will fix with bolt the X rails properly and begin working on Y rails. We began to work on the control box also!!!!!!
Comments and observations are welcome. weposted a new samll video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAnIDJT6lTs |
Wow. Usted trabajan muy rapidamente!! Andale!
Joe:) |
Some more advances!!
After a while (10 days without electricity) finally we are testing the Powe supply and the Y axis movement, it was nice to find out the correct settings on EMC2 to make the motor run smooth and make the displacement match what we want the y axis to move.
We attach another video showing our latest work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4ZAAM9TaU4 Happy new year for everyone in this forum !!!!!!! |
10 days without electricity? What was the problem?
|
we update from 117 VAC to 220 VAC and the CFE (electricity company in mexico) delayed that time to make the change, but we are again moving!!!
|
Hi Domino11, i am wondering if these motors would be OK for the MM
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html I saw them recently . Saludos desde Guadalajara!!!!!! |
Sorry to chip in here rceja, but this looks a bit expensive for those type of motors. They look similar to my 34HS9801 motors from www.motionking.com that I bought from China (ok not dual shaft and no keyway).
If I remember correctly they were about $50.00 a piece plus transport. |
Thanks Kobus, these are 4 motors for 400 U,S. Shipping included to Mexico.
How much did you pay for the shipping of your motors?. I have been looking some pages and i saw that shipping is something between 62 - 74 U.S. per motor (DHL is 68). the page i showed you is for 4 motors shipping inlcluded. maybe is good idea to ask MotionKing the cost for shipping to Mx. |
Sorry only saw free shipping to Unites States....did not see the drop down menu. When I went in there I also saw that DHL shipping to South Africa is also FREE.
Like my daddy told me long long time ago....nothing is for FREE. IF I remember correctly the motors were about $48 or $50 each. leaves another $50 per motor for transport. Cannot remember the total cost ,but I think it works out to be about the same. Drop email to motionking...I think it's sales AT motionking DOT com. Mr Media Lee will sort you out quickly. Hope it helps |
Hi Rceja
Welcome abord this group :D My total cost for those MOTIONKING where 126 $can per motor, back in 2008. Even if it’s a little more on freight, in my view there still worth it ! Hope this helps Amicalement, Robert ;) |
One more step ahead!!!!!!

After some days trying to resolve some problems, finally we have our MechMate air cutting.
Next week we will work on the Cable chains and putting the control electronic into the box. her are some pictures of our spindle and its mounting and small video showing how the axis move. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byDrvo8bj58 |
Making wood dust
3 Attachment(s)
Today we did our first cut and of course our first wood dust!!!!
Buecause we couldn't get the rack and pinions for X axis, we decided to implement a chain drive (after we saw it in the forum). We have the cable chain in place. Next week we will finish putting all the cables into the chains and connect them properly. We almost finish the wiring for the proximity sensors. we expect in the short term to get a serial number. Meanwhile we post some pictures of a circles and rombos cut recently in our MM, and a couple o videos showing our machine making wood dust. We wanto to cut some Aluminium plates to make a pair of belt reduction for X axis in order to improve the cutting, can someone recomend us a cutter?, ipm, RPM's of the spindle, any advice will be welcome!!!. Here are some videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Kf_yZefLg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGJF_zUsCKg greetings from guadalajara |
It seems that you are using some USB controller and their software to run the motors, one thing which is obvious is that there is no CV (constant velocity) control in the video, motions gets to exact stop in or around corners, it slows down the cutting and as I think someone pointed to me it tends to dull the bits, you should try to find CV and exact stop settings in the software settings. Mach 3 has this and can be adjusted to preference.
Maybe also look for some settings for planning ahead, that is also responsible for correct tool path planing. Great work by the way. |
Hi
Thanks a lot for your comment Danilom. We are not using USB controller, we are using the parallel port and EMC2. I will look for CV and exact stop settings, we do not use Mach3.we will check correct tool path planing also.
:) |
|
rceja, you should play more with the trajutory control in EMC2, (G61, G64PX.XX) you may not need any belt reduction after all.
|
rceja,
just for clarity, EMC2 already has the planner build in and that is controlled with what Ken states : G61 (Exact Stop) G64PX.XX (blend tolerance mode). Mach3 calls these options a bit different, but they are just g codes for EMC2 |
