Official MechMate logo and colour
(Archived earlier version of this thread)
Logo: This file will present a .dxf file when unzipped: Colour: Ral 5017, Pantone 301C, #006699, Traffic Blue (Verkehrsblau) should be the easiest (used on our motorway signs) or RAL 5015, or RAL 5010 sometimes known as "Ford Blue" A typical chart of RAL colours and names <--------they do not sell paint! First try to find something close in small aerosol cans at the hardware shop. (Here it is called Electric Blue by Sprayon). Then get a big tin to match the colour of the aerosol. This allows you to find "touch-up"paint in 3 years time, when you do small modifications |

Logo and Color
Gerald,
I most assuredly will have the MechMate logo on my "beast", but is the "Ford blue" color a must. In another thread, someone painted theirs yellow and black. I really don't think that scheme works for me, but "Ford blue" and some other complmentary color might look cool. Does the whole machine have to be blue? Greg |

The colour is not specified in the user agreement.
I am trying to build a "corporate image" which will help everyone when they come to selling the machine. It would be nice if someone walks into your shop and immediately recognises that you have a MechMate, or that he is tempted by the logo to go and google the word to discover thathe has indeed found the "home" of your machine. The Coke logo without the red will be worth a lot less. |

Point well taken. I'll try and keep as much blue as possible.
One aspect of this whole "MechMate" approach that really appeals to me, is the world wide input. My college design classes stressed input from everyone. This is taking it to the nth degree. Greg |

Picked up my white MechMate vinyl letters today, 2 pcs 2 1/2" (63) high and 3 pcs 1 1/4" (32) high US $10. I had to convert the DXF file to a PLT file. It would have been a lot easier if I could have converted it as a CDR file (Corel). If someone would do this I think it will help. Thanks

I think this might help others. I used paint from Carquest, it was $30 per gal. It takes forever to dry, to touch 3 hrs. Completely I don't know yet it's only been 3 days. I found a better paint, I wish I had found it a week ago.

Try this file, I had the same problem then found this file somewhere and it worked great. Just save the "MechMate logo.plt" file.

Joe,
Look like you are becoming a one man parts supplier. Good for you. I like the paint job but is it powder coated? |

Yea, that is the making of my MechMate. I was in a rush paint job before the weather changed and grabbed a gallon worth of paint from Auto Zone, to get the big job done.
It cost a little more, but Jack Blow wanted $600. to paint it. As being a one man shop.? I think there are lots of sources in a < 2 mile radius from where I work. I'm just glad to help where I can. Joe |

Most automotive paint stores should have a stock ford blue in enamel paint and a catalyst to speed up drying time. If not try Agri-Supply they ship I think.

We don't have Agri Supply here in Texas, so I found equipment paint in Ford Blue at Tractor Supply. They have quarts, gallons, hardner and rattle cans.
Metalhead, it looks like you have plenty Agri Supply locations near you. But I thought some other folks, like me, might need an another alternative. Regards, John |

Home Depot - Safety Blue - Rattler Can... works great.

If I am not mistaken, Joe's pics show a glittery "metallic" finish paint?

I went to Lowes and got the Rustoleum royal blue professional enamel available in either gallons or quarts but also available in rattle cans (Nils favorite).

Yes, Home Depot calls it Safety Blue. I thought Joe's had that Christmas sparkle also.
You got to love those rattler cans... just don't paint your face or truck. Keep them out of the sun also. |

Those clip-on handles for rattle cans are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yes, (handles) they do make it easy to paint.
I used them to paint the bumper on my truck. |

Color
I painted mine yellow and black to disquinish it from a true MM. I didn't find the MM site untill I had my machine running and wasn't happy with the gantry. Actually considered being really crazy and going pink and black.

Sorry for the thread drift
Doug, Here's the link for the SA decal. http://www.flagline.com/id01A3180 It's a reflective decal for autos. I couldn't find a non-reflective decal. |
