Thumbs up Hello Im a total newcommer from Australia :)

I Live in Sydney Australia and have played the guitar for many years, I have a technical background in the electrical trade, a lot of experience with computers and been a surfer here on Sydney's Northern Beaches for many years. Recently I was introduced to the concept of cnc machines while doing some background reading on the construction of Les Paul guitars. I also have a background as a surfboard builder for a short period, and can see many applications for this machine in cutting plan shapes, cutting fins from fiberglass panels etc. Though I'm not going to build a machine at present I can see I will definately have use for it in the future, wether it be in the surfboard industry or starting some sort of sideline with guitars.

Regards & Best wishes Peter Martin

Mike Thanks for the welcome, still finding out about all the parts that go into a machine. I come into this absolutely cold, but because of my background handling tools I should be ok constructing a machine only thing is where do you start!! lol

Start? Why at the beginning of course!

You'll want to download the plans and take a pass through them, getting the lay of the land. Then read the forum for a few dozen hours, hopefully a bit at a time. Read the sections on anything that didn't make sense from the plans, or isn't familiar to you. Read a few build threads to get a sense of other builder's experiences. Ask a few questions if you like.

Then, in a moment of excitement, make a rash impulse purchase - maybe a laser cut parts kit, or a set of motors and drivers. Suddenly you're committed, and it just rolls along from there.

Welcome, Peter!

Welcome Peter & Enjoy the experience!!

Brad is pretty much on the money, study the plans and read through some of the build threads and eventually it all falls into place.
Being from a Shopfitting Joinery background it was all new to me building something like this, but to be honest I am thouroughly enjoying it!!

Cheers & Goodluck!!

Tony.

Great stuff! Thank you for the warm welcome. I really didn't expect to be noticed anyway Ive taken Brads advice and downloaded the plans, Ive also read up on "What is a linear Bearing" lol, Ive also taken a look at a few youtube videos and found out already there are two types of motors to drive the rig ie stepper motors and if my memory serves me correctly brushless servo motors. If I'm going to do this I'm going to do it properly ie I want a machine thats not going to have any lagging power issues. Anyway thanks again
