Model Bridge for the President of the country
Well this was my first job!
Its not typical Mechmate task but I was only one to accept to make the model of this dual bridge in two days! Ofcourse MM helped a lot It was delivered to the President of Republika Srpska as a gift from our country as the bridge is on Sava river between our two countrys. Enjoy the pictures! Its made of pressed pvc "Forex" very nice material and lightweight. Last edited by Gerald D; Fri 10 September 2010 at 05:54.. |

Its 3mm forex sheet I used double sided tape, but it was too thin and it required me to hold it down with my hand sometime (watch your fingers ) becouse no matter what it would pull it up its just to flexible. I tryed climbmill inside and conventional outside, becouse of material vibration (inside lines are 1-1.5mm and would brake on first test) so it doesnt tear thin lines. Edge was fine but required some work becouse forex has a thin layer on both sides (used for printing) and it swarfs (I think this is the right word)
Small pieces were made using 4 bridges 2mm wide and 1mm just enough to hold it down so it would not fly on to router bit after being cut out. Router bit used was 2mm endmill |

Very Nice!
You are taking away jobs from the laser guys!! Great! Had to google that republic name, I knew Bosnia Herzegovina, but Republika Srpska was new to me. Regarding the job, what I do sometimes with thin sheets is prepare an extra gcode program for drilling 1 mm holes in areas I will not cut and then hammer small nails all over the place, this adds some unevenness to the material (it compresses a little more around the nail) but I solve it by making the cuts a little deeper, the spoil board suffers but the job gets done! Would it be too much to ask for dxfs and such?
This would make a nice gift for a nephew of mine |
