Thumbs up Hi there Dave from South Africa

I am still stunned, where, what, how.

After going through almost all the post on this great forum, the good and the greats of making your own cnc machine, I desided to take the plunge..

Thats right, I am going to build a Mechmate.

This is going to be quite challenging for I have no idea what I am getting myselve into. I want to build one for my DAD, he is a woodwork fanatic, the day he downs his tools, is the day we lay him to rest.

He loves working with his hands, sad to say this has not rubbed off on me, so I am going to make it right by giving him his own " Mechmate".

So wish me luck, just sorting out the funds for build, then i am going to tackle this beast...

Thanks for Mechmate, that made these plans available.

rgs

Dave

Vinnige vraag vir die kenners, ek sien die monster loop of rack and pinion, can ek die rack se tande kleiner maak, om n beter detail op produksie te kry?

Hi Dave

Making the teeth smaller is not an option / advisable (wear, stripping, rack jumping etc) its better to use reduction drives to increase resolution/torque. How fine a detail do you want to achieve? Kobus has already made clock parts with his and I think he is using direct drive!

I found a link to Vector art 3d, somewhere on this forum, they have some nice 3d images ready for cnc, just wanted to know if the MM can do detailed 3d.

If above makes sence?

Don't worry Dave, build it as per Gerald's plan...any size will do..I can promise you that you will be able to do as detailed work as you want. Not milling machine accuracy, but very close.
