I got vector or Aspire files for Telecaster style and other types of guitar, which I cut regularly. Send me your email to get them Tom.

Sorry guys for not responding earlier, I have to do actual work occasionally, lol. The customer sent me an STL file, don't know the program that created it, I don't even think they know, ha ha. I just need to import it into aspire, not sure how to do that yet but this is how you learn I guess.

For such a simple guitar body STL is not going to do the job in Aspire, body is all 2d
and you'll have a hard time machining it. If you want send me STL file I'll extract edge curves in Rhinoceros for you and then you can use it with ease.

Opening the file is one thing. What you want to do with the STL file is an completly different thing.
Would you mind specifying what you wish to achieve?

Customer sent several files none of which is an stl file. They are SLDPRT files which are solidworks files I believe, got to do more research...

Danilo thanks for the offer, appreciated. Ken, Pete, all I want is a 2D renderings to import into aspire.

Autocad 2012 and new can import these directly but I have 2005 (old I know don't use much at all) I may have to upgrade, seems the newer stuff has a lot of new stuff going on.

I finally got an opportunity to do an inlay for a customer, I made this with a piece of maple and walnut that was laying around. Customer is very happy with the detail. Not bad for the first attempt.

Wow, looks good Tom. Never done an inlay, gotta try one soon. If it turns out as good as yours I'll be happy!

Thanks guys, I was surprised that it actually picked up the little wisps on the feathers. It was really easy too. I showed a friend and he now wants all his band members to get an inlay logo on their guitars and stuff, funny.

Aspire 4.5. After thinking about it more I bet it would work great for solid surface applications. hmm

Well, was running the router for a small job while listening to my favorite college football game and my cheapo spindle pump died. Looks like I'm going to hook-up a temporary backup while I order another 2 this time.

Does anyone know what software allows you to create the parts for buck forms for modeling (don't know if I'm explaining it correctly). I want to fabricate some automotive fenders and need to learn how to make the forms in a software to make on the router. Does anyone understand what I'm looking for?

Just looked up what you want to do on Google and came across this video. Is this the kinda thing you are doing?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BJFSXIP6Vw8

If so it says they used 3dsMax (whatever that is) to produce the parts.

Not much I know but all I could find visually...

Cheers

If you can model in sketchup, you could use a command called 'Intersect Faces'

Cut 3d (included if you buy Aspire) is good at slices too.
...and it's affordable.

I'd almost be better off making the buck by eye, it'd take me forever to learn to create one, I haven't done but one 3d anything and wasn't too happy with the time required to cut. Guess I'll have to actually look cut3d a bit more to see what I can and can't do. I thought it only made consecutive slices and not spaced.

What is the most common name of that process?

This is a guitar I'm in the middle of spraying.

It still needs polished.
