Cheapest good cyclone ever - small 2" (50mm)

Not affiliated or anything, but from multiple fellow cnc users i hear very good reviews on this very cheap cyclone. Thought it was worth a tip for fellow mm owners |

2" inlet/ outlet is kinda small for volume chip collection in my opinion.

Depends, what you are milling and for how long at a time. Sure if it you are plowing trough 18 mm multiplex all day in a production environment you need more capacity, but you won't run a vacuum cleaner then.
For most diy use I thought this might be a quick affordable off the shelve solution though I am using a different bigger system myself. |

I think unless you are doing a 3d job with a 1/16" ballnose, a 2" hose won't flow enough volume for a MM.
I think this on a 5 gallon bucket hooked to a shopvac to use with a random orbit sander would be ideal, and am considering one for that reason. Glad you shared it. |

It is also possible to use multiple small cyclones in parallel to get higher flow rate, and the cleaning efficiency is usually better than with one big one.

Very true, parrallel cyclone are very common in industry. One application I can think off is big 50~500ton/hr biomass boiler.

...or a dyson floor sweeper - with 9 mini cyclones. I push one around my house every week.

Heres another with free shipping, works out a little cheaper. Appears to have a ramped inlet.
I could see buying 10 for less than $225...but it seems the plumbing to split off the inlets and outlets to a 4-6" pipe, while making sure the load was balanced would be a nightmare... http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hot-s...216386840.html Last edited by darren salyer; Mon 20 April 2015 at 08:07.. |

You don't need spot on balance.
plumb all the inlet pipe to a inlet header box & outlet to a outlet header box. but x10 is gonna be messy. Anyway, I'll still go for the Thien cyclone using the biggest barrel I can get my hands on the next time round Last edited by KenC; Mon 20 April 2015 at 20:57.. |

When I move, the plan is to go to a Pentz design, or pony up the bucks for a Clear-Vue cyclone.

The main reason why I wouldn't use multiple small cyclones is because of potential blockages. It is not only chips and sawdust that gets sucked into the system . . . . there are scrappy offcuts as well (sometimes even product parts).

Very valid point. I could also see a collection bin being hard to fab up, that wouldn't be a nightmare to empty.
I still think I'm going to order one for a 5 gallon bucket to use with a random orbit sander, so I'm glad the topic came up. |

Speaking with Bill Pentz lately and he said he has improved the efficiency of the CV06-mini for a vacuum even further for ClearVue. I am looking to order one this week. Thought of building one but I can afford the $75 for just the cyclone mini unit.
