This one is the 2nd post this year .... just to prove Gerald wrong .
Sean this statement really holds true .... "It takes more time for clean up than it did to cut sometimes. Static cling!"
I have been cutting for this customer 2 years now with no increase in price. I cut 1/8" and 1/2" thick material for $20 per sheet. The customer wants no increase and I want/need $25. Thanks Sean for the input. J.R.

Re: control box

Hello Guillermo. I am planning to build another machine. The current control box cools fine by pulling air into the box, this requires the box to be air tight. The new box will cool by pushing air (Gerald's suggestion) into the box so any small holes will just let a little air out, no big deal. The main exit will be an aluminum square tube large enough for all the Gecko drives to mount on the surface creating a perfect heat sink. One end of this tube will be open inside the box, the other will attach to the exterior of the box (maybe the bottom, to prevent dust from getting in when not in use). It will have an exit hole cut to match the inside of the tube. All air will exit through this tube therefore cooling the drives and the interior of the box (the air has to be filtered of course). I also plan to have one or two hinged panels for easy access to all components. I hope this helps ....... J.R.

Is this customer you are cutting the sheets of PVC cutting for them selves or their client. I recently had a discussion with my client and they are planning a price increase to their client in Dec. I told them I could wait but I need to see an increase.

I don't believe a $5 increase is out of order. You are cutting 20 for a $1 a piece. Your gas, electric, bits etc have gone up. $0.25 per piece in not an unreasonable increase.

# 1 What fan cooler specs and quantity would you
recommend.

I used one computer power supply cooling fan and it works great, everything in the control box is always well within a safe tolerance.

# 2 Will you use again a pool filter for the air inlet
and have you evaluated the use of automotive
filter.

I did think about using the auto filter, but opted to use the pool filter and again it works very good. I don't have a dust problem. Little dust find it's way in via the cracks I mentioned, but the proof is evident by the dust trail around the holes.

Here is a link of what i have in mind.

That is indeed very sad news. His first wife passed away while he was building his MM in 2007. May the two of them rest in peace together.

I am very sorry to hear that. He will be missed on this forum.
I think he was a very good designer and his rail grinding and dust shoe ideas were used by many.

My feelings of J.R.
Inspired most people, motivated many and helped all who asked.
The community is poorer for his loss.
Thoughts to who he left behind.

This is a sad week.
I had a great, productive time working out the methods that we all enjoy in the MM machines we use today evolved from Classic to Mamba with JR personally. He was a great contributor to the MM community. May he and Rose rest in the peace they earned.

My heart goes out to his family during this time.

Peace my friend.

Sean

A true inspiration to us all at the very beginning of the Mechmate community! Reading his posts inspired me and made me believe I could really build this Beast. The world has truely lost one of its greatest.

May your family and friends find peace in their hearts in these difficult times. Rest in Peace JR.
