Uncle Ray Buck's Build #85 - Walkerville, S.Africa

After nearly 2 years of building my friend Uncle Ray Buck finally got his MM finished. This was a CASH project and took some time.
He is not on the forum as internet access is NON-Existent where he lives...even cell phone reception is bad.
I visited him often...about 150 km round trip from my home.
I was his FORUM and answered his questions as well as I could.
This past week he phone me and told me everything was ready for me to come and fire up. So this morning early I got on the motorbike and visited him.
Had some teething problems, but after a couple of phone calls to our Mach3 expert Greg in Edenvale I am happy to announce that his BIG BLUE is making dust.
Table is 3m in X-direction and 2m in Y- direction. He allowed about 500mm overhang at the front for an Indexer.
He cannot stop smiling.

Thank's Mike he will love that number. Must say I am also very impressed with his effort.
Ray is in his 70's, retired engineer and it shows in his machine.
Every wire is numbered in his control panel. It was a pleasure to get it going for him.

Uncle Ray Buck looks like a proud father of his new baby - Happy Father's Day!

And I think that Kobus deserves a special prize for his contribution to MechMate - the finest ambassador that we have.

If you put those bars on the outside they use a car jack and force it open. This way it's a little more difficult but not fool proof.

You do not see hardly any bars like that on buildings around here. Too bad it comes to that!

Today I took the road again to see what the old man is up to.
He is fighting the SOFTWARE. He keep on asking for a manual and the more I tell him to PLAY with the machine and software, the more the BLANK stare is there.
I took him through the basics and then we surfaced his table. He had a biggish bump in the middle that we first surfaced in the Y direction and the final surfacing was on the X-axis.
The base table is now FLAT. Now for the sacrifice board.

His table is a lot wider than mine. I noticed the X-axis doing a small shudder when surfacing the table with a 19mm cutter. Don't know if the greater width of the gantry is making it a bit sloppy.

Kobus,
Can you tell if the shudder is in the Z direction (ie up and down) or does it look like the tool is swinging in the X axis direction?

If it is swinging, I might have a solution. I am interested to know as I am building a 2m x 6m machine at he moment.

Haai Marius. The shudder is of the complete gantry when it moves in the X direction
