Hello everybody!
I'm also a newbie here. I have studied this forum for a while, and compared this router to commercial ( mostly Oriental) solutions. And what have I noticed ? -What's more I think about it, the more I become convinced that MechMate is the choice. That's because this would be a hobby to me, and if it develops as business I don't mind at all
But at start I need a little bit help: Mike, could you please send me the DXF Files for laser cutting the parts? I would be very grateful!
Greetings from Finlan to everybody! -J-

The DXF files are not posted for download actually. I control the distribution of those files and depending on where you are I will work to make the parts sets or the dxf files available to you.

Well I have not gotten into all of that yet, but the plans are very stable at the moment and have not been updated. So I would not worry about any changes to the basic files at the moment.

I was interested in using a CNC mill to mill the profiles but the geometry is undefined on the b/p and calls for the DXF files.

The mill time is free for me as is the extra material.
(I will be using a buddies shop after hours)

It is a nice option for people that don't have a mill/laser/water jet machine
but for me it would be a waste of $500

So is your thinking to mill all the parts out then bend them?

My plan was to use "scraps" or leftover material to mill out the profile.
sure this will take me much longer but I am in no rush. my goal is to start building around Winter time.

I can understand you not wanting to give out the DXF files, but then what is the point of selling the prints without the parts.
If the plans are every thing to build a Mechmate then sure sell them on there own like it is. but if you MUST buy the laser cut parts don't give the option to buy the plans only, sell them as a bundle.

the fact is I like the MechMate design but the cost is on the higher side compared to other DIY CNC's (for a good reason, you get what you pay for) if I am able to shave a few bucks off by using the resources available to me then it helps justify this decision.

If the planes are going to remain incomplete then I believe I will be considering a DIY based off the ideas of JOES Hybrid with the CastCNC.

look at the CastCNC package. if you want the cast and machined parts for around the same price as the laser cut parts it includes Joes plans. otherwise Joes plans included EVERYTHING needed to build a working machine.

I bet a grinder with a stack of cutting disk will do more fun. Watching the milling machine cutting 3mm MS plate can be tiring...

If a claim is made that you are being sold "a set of drawings", then that set should either:
a). include the dxf's of the un-dimensioned drawings (those with suffix P), or
b) be upgraded with dimensions added to drawings where they are missing.

But, if it is clear that a mix of parts and drawings are being sold, then there is no obligation for drawings of the parts being supplied.

Was I wrong to assume

I've been reading and re-reading Gerald's last reply to this thread, I was dissapointed when the dxf files for laser cut parts were not included when I purchased the plans. Was I wrong to assume they would be?

My business is still reeling from the effects of the 2009 economic downturn, and right now, just don't have 500 bucks to spare. A neighbor and close friend has a laser and will cut the parts for the cost of materials. With that savings, I could get started on a machine sooner.

I enjoy reading this forum would like to thank everybody that takes the time to contribute , it's much appreciated by a novice like me.

Hey Mike

I Checked out your web site http://www.cvsupply.com/servlet/the-MechMate/Categories.

Quick question, whats the difference between the 2 different leveling feet other than $11.60 in price? They look identical but the ones on the mechmate page are more expensive.

Also what would be the postage cost of the motor drive belt plates to Australia?

Thanks, Mick

Thaks for pointing that out to me. I guess they upgraded the store. All of those items in "other" were not supposed to be visible. Feet price is $44.60 and the store has been corrected. Thanks !!
