Pragtig.. I wanted to make them as well...have about 4 different pictures...BUT since I am CAD disabled never got around to do it.....

Robert, I will have to check tomorrow on the cutting time, but the drawing took a few hours, in fact it is still ongoing as I want to make one or two changes, The CAM toolpath was very quick, about 5 -10 min on Enroute 3.

John, the caterpillar is nice but I think that one may need to be cut with a laser or possibly with a hand coping saw - look at the centre section where the vertical members meet the foot pieces, no clearance for a router cutter. Some of his other designs are definetly meant for laser, the whole unit has extremely tight slits.

I'm looking for a chair design which is friendly for my father's rear end.
How does the chair feels? Springy? does the slats flex to conform to your bottom end?

The chair was cut with 3 passes (8mm slot drill) in 6 stages from 18mm shutterply (not the best material in the world!)

1. Drill centres with a 90 Deg conic - to give me locations to put in screws to hold it down to the table - 1.25 min cutting time (plus about 15 min to put the screws in)
2. Seat external cut out - 8 min - then put a few clamps around the outside of the seat area and screws with flat washers to hold the fingers from moving.
3. Seat internal cut out - 5 min
4. Back outside cut out - 5.5 min - then again a few clamps around the outside perimeter.
5. Back inside centre cut out - 10 min - then insert more screws with flat washers to hold these fingers from moving.
6. Back inside outer cut out - 23 min.

Total cutting time (excluding clamping and screwing) about 53 min.

There were some areas where the cutter did not clean up properly to the bottom of the cut so I passed the cut out through the drum sander a few times to clean up and release everything - at this stage it was a bit like trying to get an octopus through a mail slot - its very flexible. Once assembled its quite ridgid but the slats have plenty of give - at first it feels a little disconcerting but that soon passes. I think it would be a lot better with 22mm ply for a little extra stiffness. This chair MUST be used on a rough or carpeted floor, on my wooden flooring at home the bottom that touches the floor just slides out when I sit on it, but its OK when my son sits on it - maybe I just exceed the safe working limit for this design

Its very comfortable because the seat and back area conform to your body shape easily.

Alan, Wow! you are careful with your cuts! Did you use tabs for keep the fingers inplace? I would if I were to cut one with this many fingers...

Ken, no tabs, as long as the appropriate sequence is followed, nothing should move with the screws holding it down.

hello thank you for the information and answers you give can you help me for good measure to cut the seat (scaling of X and Y.)
1 - I did the coversion of the drawing in dxf.
2 - I intend to cut with my router table is: (X1300 mm. Y2500 mm)
3-cut on a multiple panel 1220mm sur2440mm
and which is 10mm thick with a bit end mill diameter 6
