What does a stepper motor look like inside? (geared Oriental Motor)
Opened a geared motor to see if I could could re-wire it for half-coil. Thought somebody may be interested in pics . . . . .
This motor gearbox combination was specially produced for ShopBot. Not listed in any catalogue. It was permanently wired "series" and only 4 leads exited the motor. Verdict, re-wiring for half-coil will not be attempted today  Here is the advantage of hardened gears. Over two years hard running and the pinion still fits snugly in the rack:
