elte 1hp spindle.

i have the oportunity to have a elte "italian" 1hp air cooled spindle cames with 10 er20 collets from 2 to 13 mm. plus a yaskawa controller.
its used but working fine. maybe a bearing change to start from 0.
i didnt start to build my mm YET. have to finish my shop first.
the point is. i never consider the spindle since the machine will start working with a 2hp router maybe dewalt or bosch. mainly for cutting and carving melamine, mdf and other materials.
what do you think? 1hp spindle will work for me at the beguining. later if everything its fine i will switch to 3hp.

If the price on the spindle is super cheap, then it might be worth it.

Consider new bearings could be $200-700, and that would pay for a brand new 3kw spindle and VFD.

Can you test the runout of the Elte?

Is the Yaskawa large enough to drive a larger spindle in the future?

Elte is a good producer of spindles.

1hp with a 13mm shank bit is a complete mismatch - I am surprised that Elte offers a 1hp ER20 combination.

well i think the same 13mm is too big.
but the main cuestion. 1hp will work at the start? for melamine mdf and that stuff?
the bearings service cost 120uss but has gerald says. elte its a very good spindle producer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that a 1hp spindel is rated at a true(r) hp than any electric router which the manufactures have rated hp on a locked rotor type scale. No electric motor could run but a few seconds under those conditions. So a true(r) hp for the small electric routers are not much more/less than 1hp at best.

Rating is one factor. but in real cutting the ability to maintain spindle rpm & verious cutting depth & feed is crucial for 3D works. Most AC spindles are not constant speed with load.
My experience is if you load the spindle to less than 30% of the rated power, it will have a fairly constant rpm through out.
