MechMate Wiki

Creating a comprehensive manual seems like a huge undertaking for one person. Since there is such a robust community around the Mechmate, how about letting the community produce a manual in the form of a wiki?

The forum would still serve its purpose of letting people share ideas and seek help with problems.

The wiki would allow important details, tips, procedures, etc. to be condensed into a more linear format. The forum can be somewhat "non-linear" and overwhelming for the newbie.

A wiki sounds interesting and Gerald, if you started it, you could still have moderator type control to the content as far as I know.

Sorry, but I don't have the time to get involved with a wiki. But don't let that stop you all from creating one.

I can set one up. What about the domain name? Would something like mechmatewiki.com or mechmateman.com be acceptable? Or should it be something without mechmate in the name?

I have no problems with the name or logo appearing on a dedicated Wiki domain.

mechmatewiki.com sounds good. Gives everyone an idea of what it is right in the domain name.

mechmatewiki.com would score top place in a Google search on mechmate wiki. Google loves finding the search words right in the domain name. (and page title)

It won't be part of mechmate.com - it will be created independently.

Ok - I have www.mechmatewiki.com setup. You can register, start playing around with the testbook to see how it all works, and even start adding content. There is a forum on the site for discussing the organization and material included, but all technical questions, etc, should still stay here.
I am sure it will need tweaks as time goes on. Let me know what you think.

Thanks Travis, it looks good to start with, all we need now is to add some content...

Thanks Travis!

Could you please erase my full surname as it doesn't appear anywhere on this site. Not ashamed of it, just don't like the weird phone calls from people who don't understand my timezone and accent.

Feel free to liberally copy text from this forum to start "seeding" the wiki.

I would support an independent "user's" forum. It was one of the problems I had with the ShopBot forum; the fact that the forum owners could control what was said in public about their product. I want to leave myself the option to commercialise MechMate in the future, and then I would probably become more biased than what I am now.

Surname removed. I ran across it and wanted to give full credit where due. So if these people don't understand the time zone and accent, I am guessing the "weird" phone calls are coming from some other country, maybe somewhere on the North American continent?

Thanks for the use of forum material for seeding.

Actually, more South American and Asian. Some folk found me by doing a whois search on the domain name.
