Viper Audio - South Africa (Sasolburg)
Hi guys,
My name is Eric from Sasolburg South Africa. Thanx for a great forum with excellent support. I have started at the beginning of this year to move my business from handmade Loudspeakers to CNC manufacturing (Or so i thought). Met a guy on the net in SA who i thought had a lot of knowledge of cnc machines I paid him to imported a controller and steppers and design a cnc router for me. Unfortunately the guy Scammed me for about R40000.00 Now i am back at square 1 going to build the MM that i really wanted from the start. Glad owner of 4 X nema 34 and a controller i was wondering if i could build a MM and convert it to work with the smaller steppers for now to convert it later to work with the proper suggested steppers. Please i need help. Thanx Again! Eric Spilsbury Viper Audio Sasolburg 0824420157 |

Welcome, I am sure we are all using NEMA-34 motors.

Gerald - Is machine #1 still for sale?
http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showt...00&postcount=1 I would not move away from the 34 motors. Sell the 24's and Controller you have. This system has been sifted through and refined with the 34 motors. For the difference in expense it is not worth it to change anything on the design for what you are doing. If price is your main concern, shop and find good deals on used items. |

I just thought that with a few minor modifications i could use the machine with the Nema 23's and when it generate an income for me convert it to the original Nema 34's.

I'd buy that machine that is for sale and then start making money with it immediately then if you still want to build a machine start one.
The off set of buying the machine is the output/volume you can create immediately... which means $$$$ ... Just a thought. |

True, but due to the guy that ripped me off i can not afford the machine fore sale and have to make a plan of building a machine and using what i've got. According to my calculations it would work out in the region of R25000.00 a lot of time and help from you guys.

I second the opinion of the nema 23 motors, sell them and buy the recommended motors for the MM. The small motors will just not cut it.

What to buy?
Ok Guys, just sold the small steppers & controller.
As i'm starting from scratch i want to build a MM of 3M X 2M for mostly cutting MDF and maybe later Plasma. What Controller (BOB), Drivers and Steppers would you suggest? I would like to start buying that so long as it takes a while to get it here in SA. Then i could start with the table and Laser cut parts so long. Thanx |

Controler
I am running Bob Campbell's controler on both of my machines. I haven't had any controler problems in the last 3 years. I know that he does ship overseas.

What pushed up the price ? Give us a breakdown. I will build another machine tomorrow and I am sure I will get in under R 30 000.00 total....without beg borrow and steal like my first one.

Kobus, I build mine for R35 000. The table legs and bracing I got for free. Maybe one can save on the contactors and connections in the box? Not sure if that will drop it by 5 grand.

This has been mentioned many times over in this forum
"When money is hard to come by, time is your friend..." You can make your own wheel and a fellow MM-er made his own wheel using a bench drill + iron file & grinding stones... can't remember who though... |

Hi Guys,
I have now just realized that my grinding is better than my welding. After struggling to get my table relatively straight. I can now start the rest of the build. The question is where to begin? Where do i get V-rollers in SA. I will post some pictures soon. Thanx for everybody's help so far. Eric |
