How many laser profile cut components required per part number?
In the CNC profile cutting drawings, have you mentiond how many units are required from each drawing. For instance if we take the motor mount drawing how many units do we require . I assume that it should be 6 units.

Why do you want more motor mounts than motors?
Okay, I must plead guilty in getting all that information out slowly . Also, with the development on the z-slide (to throw out the expensive linear bearing) there are some more laser cutting shapes to come. (3 shapes, qty 1 each) Anybody who has already ordered laser-cuttings will have no scrap, unless they ordered too many pieces. If the quantities are not clear to you please ask. I used 5 motor mounts (2 for x, 2 for y and one for z) but a MechMate only has 4 motors. The extra mount on the y-axis is just carrying a roller. I suggest that you order 4 mounts, this gives you the option to have double Y-motors later, or to use the same spring roller that I used. If money is tight, order only 3 mounts to the published drawings. (The z-axis mount will be a different shape) |

I was thinking of handing over the total job to the CNC cutting facility by Monday. It is better if I could get everything done in one go. The cost would be cheaper if they could quote for the total job in a single go.
I was thinking that you need 2 mounts for the x rail, two mounts for the Y rail (including one dummy) and two more for the Y rail (the max you will need since you have not perfected the drawings). |

Here is the latest list of Profile drawings:
The .zip was put in the downloads section tonight. The quantities are as follows.... 2 off 10 20 454 4 off 10 20 456 1 off 10 30 422 2 off 10 30 450 2 off 10 30 455 1 off 10 40 422 1 off 10 40 432 1 off 10 40 434 4 off M5 10 012 ....but it is Friday night and I might regret it in the morning - please check my quantities against the photos, etc. ! |

After assembling the z-slide today, 3 profile drawings were revised. (This is the risk of publishing drawings while still prototyping). One could get into the lazy habit of saying it is too much trouble to improve a design because it is too much work to re-publish a drawing.

Do I need to have AutoCad to open up the profile drawings that are in "dxf"? Can I use something else to open them that is free?

You have the exact same drawings in .pdf format as well.
But, in general, if you are interested in CNC, you almost certainly must find a way of opening .dxf's |

Check out CAD standard. Still, it may fail to import some DXF...
You may want to see if SketchUp handle 2D DXF nicely... or you may Google for a DXF viewer. I'm pretty sure you'll find many. |

cannot PM you back but thank you, I never noticed the zip file in the downloads. And thanks a lot for making these plans available, there are several DIY machine plans on the net that are inferior in many ways where they charge $$$ for the plans. motor mount for X, Y was M5 10 012, is now M5 10 312 and motor mount for Z is M5 10 322. looks like Gerald needs to update his list. found a few others 10 30 422 is right, 10 40 422 is wrong

Well, I havn't built one of these things for a long time! I might look at the list again tonight - but I would think that JR has the list right.

My mind is not ready for all those numbers tonight. Just check the "Higher drawing/s" number in the title block, find that higher drawing and see what numbers it asks for. There is a very clear line/sequence from one drawing sheet to the next. That part must be logical and correct and from there you make your own lists.
(Where is my mind tonight? Fitting RFID transponder tags to 600 000 rubbish bins and patenting an antenna to read them....) |

Can you give us more information? Why do you think that drawing 10 20 454 exists if you can't find it and it isn't listed on the spreadsheet. Do you see it referenced somewhere else? If so, on what sheet is it listed? |

Doug, look at the earlier postings in this thread. The file is listed. I think that Gerald will be the only one that answer this question but I suspect that it was a drawing that is no longer needed.

Krod if I'm understanding right, 10 20 454 has 3 sheets. It's the Carrier Plate, 10 20 454 P D cut, 10 20 454 D B drilled, and 10 20 454 B A bent, it's the ends of the gantry.

JR, 10 20 454 is not listed in the current Mamba drawing package. Do you have an older package?

I believe that 10-20-451 Mamba plans replaces 450 (original plans) to account for the higher rails.

Greg I looked at both sets of plans and you are right, 10 20 454 (old plan) is now 10 20 451 (new plan)

Yes it is becomes in new plans 10 20 451 and 10 20 452 for correct-side drilling of counter sunk holes and bending purpose.

There is slight difference between 10 20 451 and 10 20 452. Previously these were 10 20 454.
Mechmaters were facing difficulty becoz since two of these required, and bending and countersunk holes drilled in wrong direction, though resulted in only in wrong orientation of motor. However Gerald corrected it new drgs and these are also fit for Geared motors. |

Glad you guys worked this one out. 451/2 (Mamba) is not interchangeable with 454 (original) mainly because of the motor mount position caused by the Mamba's slightly taller rails. The direction of the bends is a secondary reason for the renumbering. (However, in an emergency, the 454 could be forced to work with the Mamba rails)
