Stepper Motor tuning Help, Please

Hello to All CNC masters.
I am Aziz from UAE. just recently i assembled my CNC plasma Cutter,
Started to Mach3 set up process, but couldnt manage motor tuning, almost 2 days trying to figure out but no result,
Checked all wiring, seems all OK.
But motors moution is noisy and not smooth. Unregular Sounds also,
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdg...WxDwnbXvBGjNzg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmG-6-vaL14
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMOcU-Bip_Y

I could not archive higher speed than thi vedio, its a smoothest motor tuning pulse/revolution that I managed to set up.
Calling axes to home speed also not enough high, and
All motors are set up on 30 volts and 3.2 Ampere.
Pulse/ revolution is 1600 so 1 step is 0.225 degree.
If I set more smaller degree motor movement is getting more and more slow, even if it gets better smoother,

Motors are choosen as per advised by Mechmate plama plan.
This above vidoe is taken when all set up was done MAX CL Enabled mode .

If I remove that, after setting up, all of my motors are not working properly, drawing things incorrectly, even if i make calibration many times all of axes. losing steps. I changed pulse/ rev also to all of revolutions , But no result,

Is it must to remove click from MAX CL Enabled mode on Mach3 Config/ Pin and Port?
Please help if anyone has a similar experience,

Welcome to the forum!!

I had a great response to this, but deleted it geeez !!!

What are your Mach Settings?
What voltage is your power supply?

I would think the NEMA23 driver is not a match for the NEMA34 motor.

And this should not be an issue, but I like the 640ozin size motor but the 400ozin range motors should work.

I set you up a build thread. You have to post us some pictures of your build !!

Nice looking machine from what I see in the videos.

You building a plasma table?

Need to get a MechMate logo on that one and get a serial number!!

Thank you very Much, Yeah I made it , from A - to Z, but still need to launch an see how this machine will work.
I will get licence and all other needy things. but I have been wondering with motor tuning,

What are your Mach Settings? -- Soon I will upload photos of my set up and even more videos,
What voltage is your power supply?
I tried with 35 volts, and 2.8 amper 3.2 and 3.7 amperes,

Max allowed voltage is 50v and 4 ampers

Driver was suggested by seller for Nema 34,

I will try this motors first if not work, then i will order

Also wanted to ask,
may be i need to use Metal Head Metal Motor Plate for reducing vibration on cnc body and rack.

Thank you, yes I have build one for myself just for hobby,
I will try to find out how to post with some photos.
So Today I did some advancement in motor tuning, here on the video all you can see,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kaB...ature=youtu.be

X axis -- Pin number --2, 3 640 pulse / revolution
Y axis - Pin number -- 4, 5 12800 pulse / revolution
Z axis - Pin number -- 5 ,6 25600 pulse / revolution
All set on 3.7 Am, 36 volts
45.000 HZ , unlicked MAX CL Enabled mode
Mach3 registered under someones name I downloaded in from internet, It is not like demo, functions are not disabled, I tested all are ok,

All axis are calibrated and when I move forward, backward, right let, up down all are OK, I think, X and Z axis are OK,
but Y axis has problem, He is not moving when you order something to pretend cutting, Its like not accepting order from Mach3 or from Computer or its not accepting all , I didn't understand really. need help to find out the problem

Y axis is also not feeling any Salved axes, I salved A axis for X axis, copied all motor tuning same, like Y axes, and from Configuration also, connected all, things, but no communication between slave and Y axis,

by the way. I also did this option to find out if Y axes motor is moving or no without load , I just removed it from where its fixed, then just put it on ground, connected Y plug and i check if it moves or not while pretending to cut. it not moving at all, but when it finish G code, i just pressed Go Zero for all axes, X and Z came to 0.00 position, and Y axes also started rotating as if it is coming to 0.00 position,
the problem is it is not moving when cutting G code but coming to home from the last coordination, if it was fixed on it place, it would have gone beyond limits. or 0.000.

Please guys advise me what problem might be this,
have anyone encountered similar situation

Hi Mike This Aziz who built machmate cnc plasma recently. I uploaded some photos and videos,

By the way I found out the problem of setting, there is 3 drivers were not working, and this chines drivers is not accepting pulse or codes from Mach3, from 4 only one is accepting, So I had 3 other drivers brought before for nema 23 motor, I just connected them and tried again, very successful and very good. no vibration and smooth movement, all OK, Now,

I have seen and read your post http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3354

Please could you tell me from where you ordered
BPA01 Kit

1 Belt $8.00
1 Large Pulley $30.66
1 Small Pulley $14.92
2 Flanged Bearing FR8 Shielded $19.88

Hi. Ok. I used DQ542MA Wantai Drivers. 18-50 volts. Max 4 amper. But I want to order other one because this drivers were bought for nema 23. 425oz.in motors. Motor's crancking noisy has almost gone after i use this driver.
What drivers do you advise me to get for Nema 34. With 481 oz.in ? I will post new video today.

how much do you sell that kit for belt drive?
And what does it include ?
I was thinking to build belt drive which increases speed. As my motors are 481 oz.in. i made a mistake. I was supposed to buy motor with 800 oz.in.
I dont know may be buying better driver will increase speed.
You can make for me belt drive which increases speed. Like ration 1:1.5

Breakout board you are using has optocouplers on step and dir outputs which are slow and are limiting your performance , and they serve no use because on the drives input you have also optocouplers. I suggest you to either modify the breakout board or use another one and you will see dramatic improvement in performance.

Modifying requires you to either solder wires before optocouplers or remove them and jumper from buffer chip to output screw connector

Hi Danilo
Thank you for your advise, May be because of this optocouplers my old drivers didnt work properly. it was having a problem in reading mach3 signals, Sometime working sometime no, I will better remove them otherwise it will take much time to order and wait till it comes, I am attaching here bigger pictures of my cnc board, and some related data sheet i found,
Please tell me which legs needs to be connected after the removal it,

First try to solder the wire before smd resistor 331 which goes to the input of optocoupler on pin 1 and go with the wire to the drive directly.

if that works correctly than if you want the use that board you should remove the optocoupler and the resistors on the output marked 102 (on your picture R34-R37) and jump from opto pin 1 to pin 4

Looking at the videos I hear the pinion rattle when the machine reverses direction, you really should install springs and allow the system to compensate for height difference between rail and rack,

right now you have lots of backlash

Danilom I tried but the result is same, however i have another one from old cnc machine, i may try that, also driver pulse/rev was set on 6400, i made it 3200 it is much faster now, i need to adjust rack also, its not laying in a same line, it may be giving rough noisy because of that, to completely reduce noisy i still need to assemble something like this photo, belt reduction

That board is ok I use the same ones

get the 4 wires from two terminals labeled PC 5v to the step and dir + on drives, pul/dir from board go to step dir - on drives and you will be good to go.

remember to connect USB power as it powers the 5V on the bob, 24Vdc is just for inputs and its regulated down to ~10V for the optos which accept NPN input from proxy sensors.

Hi Master Guys need your advice, Please
Where should be zero for Plasma Z axis?
My CNC plasma Z axis moves within 100 mm length. MAx 0mm and Min -100mm
Initially I made Z axis home location is upper point Z zero, and it goes to torch metal plate below Zero, like it goes down -85 mm to detect material and probe.

But I am a bit confused After I watched videos on youtube , Guys are marking Z zero when its nearly torch metal cutting plate. So their Z axis never goes below Zero.

I have probe and THC, still doing set up for Sheetcam post processor and creating G code for Test Cut..

I would appreciate if you give me your valuable advises,

When I bought THC. I was given a M3 and M5 Macro files to change from Macros/Plasma folder on Mach3...

I have changed them, But now sure If I need to write any numbers there below on the fields marked ()

M3

DoButton (24) 'home for the command of Z'
While ismoving () 'wait until Z stops'
Wend
DoButton (10) 'Zero Z'
code ("g0z1.5") 'for the Z-axis cutting head upward so that an optimal range by section right (in this example is 1.5 mm) '
While ismoving ()
Sleep (1000)
Wend
ActivateSignal (OUTPUT1) 'opening plasma'
Sleep (600) 'wait 600ms'
DoButton (10)
StartTHC () 'THC control mode cutting head height'
DoButton (0) 'Run'

M5

M5 Code:
EndTHC () 'off mode THC cutting head height control'
DeActivateSignal (OUTPUT1) 'plasma initials'
code ("g0z10") 'Z-axis travel up to 10mm'

This macro is for using floating head switch as home , you cant have soft limits or another home in the upper position

For plasma I use probe input and probing G31, look for a script on machsupport forum

This M3 of your is very wrong, putting G0 1.5 in m3 will limit you in a way that if you cut thicker material you have to change the script ... and I can's see a way to get to the pierce height?

You can have custom macro Mxxx and it should only probe down find the switch get the offset zero out the Z on the plate and thats it. Sheetcam postprocessor puts out the pierce height and fires the M3 then gets to the cut height.

Also for plasma go in to ports and pins and spindle setup set all the delays for spinup to 0.

Hi Danilom Thank you
I have removed Z axis, So no more limit , home there. later i will do

I have also probe, pin 11 is activated, only need correct macro for it. i have not activated output signal or relay for plasma on, as plasma get on in a different way.

The guy who sold THC is not replying yet as today is weekend, but I am trying to to somehow,
and I found a macro from this site, http://proma-elektronika.com/index.p...kcja-materialu
and tried this macro http://proma-elektronika.pl/download/m300.m1s

and copied it and changed with macro number m3 on plasma folder after that tried one of my drawing g code which i prepared with sheet cam yesterday,
Uploaded video is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6l6...ature=youtu.be

I think its working but still need to adjust some of parameters,
It is 2 times coming to detect material.
How can I remove unnecessary part from above macro?
So that it comes one time to detect the material. and starts cutting,

The THC I bought is very very similar to the above site, but its from Vietnam
this one http://robot3t.com/products/mechaniz...mpact-thc3t-02

I guess THC starts acting after detection of material.

Please if this video and macro are still wrong, share me your, let me see how its written, may be i can write mine according to yours.

Because you are using referencing and its not set up right thats why its coming down two times.

You need a correct post from Sheetcam, to use with probing floating head.

I can send you the post I use and a macro for touch off, floating head Z offset can be entered in macro or in DRO made on mach screen.

For thc in mach to work you need to have plasma screen loaded and in the middle is a button THC ... its THC ENABLE.... beside it its THC ENABLE LED. Without it enabled it won't listen to THC UP / DOWN

I watched your videos, works perfectly.
what post processor should I use for to coordinate with Macro and probing floating head?

I activated already THC with pin,12,13 up down. wiring also has been done, just disconnected THC from power, no useless to connect without plasma, but , soon I am going to bring one, as i finish this macro and metal detection set up

Email sent.

When you get this going if you have time put the whole process of setup here so everybody else can learn. I got no time right now for a complete how to.

beside UP / DOWN you need ARC OK ... or THC OK in input pins, Mach wont move if THC is active and there is no THC OK (ARC OK) signal
