starting a new Mechmate

ciao,

I've seen a mechmate at work yesterday at the maker faire in Rome Italy.
I am about to start building a DIY CNC router and Sergio told me of your forum and all.
before buying the plans,
how can I know what is in the package?
I suppose there will be the dimensioning, cutting and bending specifications of steel parts, are there also the elecrtical parts?

thanks,
Antonio

Antonio,
The plans give you all the information to build the machine. The forum fills in gaps where you get to make choices like what size table, can I use 3mm or 5mm steel, tube or square profile, which motors, which break out board, what power supply? etc. etc. Read and you will see most builders have these questions and got advice. Not because it is not in the plans, but because they wanted to modify the plans.

Depending where you are you may be able to buy a laser cut kit that has some of the complex shaped parts cut out, bent and marked for drilling. This kit helps a lot, but the plans also contain plans of the parts that can be used by laser cutter company you choose.

I'm nowhere nearly talented as Sergio and most of the other builders but was able to build a machine in 9 months that is carving out complex 3d objects. The plans are great, but support from the forum was key in keeping me motivated and on track.

sorry,
it does not accept shipping to Italy!

weird, as I would expect it to be sent via email... ;-)

by the way,
I need to do the laser cuts and normally my manufacturer uses .dwg files for that,
would pdf also be ok?
thanks,
Antonio
