Gerald
Regarding the v-rollers I have phoned the cnc company and they are doing the v-rollers in EN8 steel To all the local builders I got a quote for the v-rollers to be made by a local engineering company and the cost are R 50.00 each incl. I have ordered them and lead time is 7 days. Will see what quality is like once I get them. |

Hi Hennie, just do your sums...R50.00 sounds cheap, but are they then hardened and ground? What about bearings.
14 wheels @ R50.00 = R 700.00 28 bearings @ R30.00 = R 840.00 Already R1540.00...Hardening / grinding? I tried that way, but in the end bought the correct wheels from Rick...+/-R2000.00 for wheels and bushes landed in SA. They are very good quality. |

Hi Kobus
14 weels at R 49.02 = R 686.28 28 bearings at R 23.65 = R 662.20 Total = R 1348.48 hardening/grinding ( en8 steel / lets see the end product ) Saving of R2000 .00 - R 1348.48 = R 651.52 LESSON LEARNED.! R 651.52 gives me 3 Saturday mornings at the Wimpy with the kids priceless |

Hi Alan
The total cost for all four is R 4800,00 but I still need to get them in Plett from JHB.I should pay about R 800 to get them in town.Got them from someone that is also building a MM and have them on his machine. If I am not mistaken there are 6 motors left.If you are interested send me your number and I will set you up with supplier. Is your machine working or are you still building I missed out somewhere? |

Hennie,
Ek gaan die Motion king 34hs 9801 gebruik. Die kontak van Kobus, het net twee steppers oor. Hy sou vir my uitvind vir nog maar het nooit terug gekom nie. Dit is dieselfde persoon by wie jy jou motors gekoop het. |

You are dam right! weather is not that user friendly and as you can see I am at that stage of once you start building you can`t stop. Those are the little ones rods.

Gerald on your first machine you used the makita. The base that you mounted this router onto was that a "spoeg & plak " idea till it worked or did you eventually had somethig made cnc cut.I have one of those routers that will end up in the machine and will be used until such time that christmas comes for me to buy a spindle. Is there any measurements for that base somewhere that I can ues to make one.I also have two ryobi`s (industrials) that I can use the only thing is that to get spares ( collets 1/2 inch.) for them is a mission.Tried to get once from a crowd in George waited four weeks and got wrong collets.Ended up buying the makita.

Hennie that base was knocked together from scrap lying around here. That's why it is mostly stainless steel and has a million holes drilled into it! . We will be selling our first MechMate soon, with that bracket, and one very worn Makita. (The first of the five tables I am busy with now will replace that one because it is too small at 8'x4')

For what its worth I will send you a drawing and maybe compare it with the bracket.regarding that other drawing , I dont know why the hole doesn`t show it is probably my drawing program ( Delta Cad) although it shows on this side.
What would be the suggested steel thickness for a bracket to hold this router as I would like the cnc company cutting it for me. |

Calculating volts & amps
Hi All!
Let me start of by asking all that know, this is where I stop and ask a lot of questions? I would put down what I have and know and please correct me where I am wrong. I have the following electrical items. 1. 300 VA - 42 vdc transformer 2. integrated power supply with 8 amp rating 3. 4 steppers Fulling ( ST 86ST 125 350 8 ag3 with 3:1 gearbox ) Specs for motors. -rated voltage - 4.97 -current -3.5 -resistance -1.47 ohm -mh inductance- 7.9 -holding torque -76 kg.cm What I have learned. 4x steppers @ 3.5 amp = 14 amp total Desired transformer current 67% of 14 = 9.38 amp 20 x 9.38 = 187.60 VA ( optimum voltage )(desired volt amp rating) Power supply voltage. rated voltage 4.97 x 20 = 99.4 VDC Desired transformer voltage 42 vdc / 1.4 = 30 VAC VA required for motors.(transformer) 42 x 3.5x 4 x .67= 393.96 VA Right the questions? Am I right in saying that my transformer is not sufficient to cope ( 300 VA ) Am I right in saying that my current supply of 8 amp is not enough. ( 9.38 amp needed) If 20 x 4.97 = 99.4 x (4 steppers )= 393.96 the VA rating of the transformer must be more than 400 VA. and would connecting the motors bi polar half winding or bi polar full winding also affect the above. ( Sorry for asking but dropped out of studying electrical engineering after 3 months ,got bored and went to the army.Best time of my life that I would never want over again.I would like to read up some more if someone knows where on the net.If it doesn`t make sence this is what happens at 1 in the morning) |
