Let's go !

I started building my MechMate !

Nothing special to say about the removable base table. It's just a bigger job than a nomal one !

I ordered my laser parts from CLT (clt@dir.bg). They did a very good job for a good price. It's a good supplier for european MM builder.

Also I received the Z plate. I made a mistake and ordered the exact size so I wasn't able to grind V one each edges with the skate. So I build special tool yesteday night:



Tell me what you think about it. I don't have used it for the moment. Probably this afternoon.

The Z plate tool works well but I had to place a metal guide in place of the wood one to move straight the Z plate. Also the grinder needed to be fixed by two clamp for each depth adjustement :





Now I have to cut rails in steel parts I had for free. My problem is they are strongly build and to make the V, I would need to change the recommmanded height from 28mm to 43mm to allow bearing of the grinder skate to roll on a flat band :




Do you think changing rails height to 43mm will make some problems ?

Hardouin, at first sight it will bring complications, maybe you need bigger motor plates for pinion reach the rack, move stoppers, etc... but you can reduce more the rails height if you use only one bearing on inside part of the rail and two bearings outside. I see a photo somewhere, from Gerald, showing it.

Calculate the Voltage and VA size of my DC power supply

Hello !

I am calculating the VA of my power supply.

I followed this thread

My datas are for my 4 steppers (86HS9801) :

Phase Résistance : 0.98 Ohm
Rated current : 4.0 A
Iinductance : 4,1 mH

Here are my calculations :

Rated Voltage : 4.0 x 0.98 = 3.92 V
Power supply voltage : 32 x square root of 4.1 = 64.8 VDC
Amp rating : 4 x 4 = 16 A
16 x 0,67 = 10.72 A

VA = 1.72 x 64.8 = 694.6

Does any one could confirm that my calculation is ok ?

Hi Hardouin,

in answer to your PM; 64VDC and 694 VA looks ok to me.

Note 1 ( if you built a power supply - when buying it will be rated a DC voltage) :
Divide it by 1.414 to get the AC voltage of the toroid you need.
In this case it would be a 45V AC toroid secondary.
Because when rectified the 45 Volt AC would give you the 64 DC voltage needed for your driver/motors.

Note 2:
You don't really need the 694 VA for your toroid, you can do it, your calc is correct, but it seems not necessary, as many members have reported/suggested that a lower VA ( for example 400 VA ) will also do the job without issues. I myself (am still building) but will opt to stay at the calculated value, so I can add axis/motors in the future and still be fine with the same power supply.

Capacitor calculation

Thank you Fox for your answer !

I think I will make the choice of a 500 VA toroid.

Claudia from Deitech told me steppers Voltage is 70 V so I think a 50 V toroid should be the best choice.

About the capacitor, my calculation is :

C = (80,000 x 16 x 0,67) / 70
C = 12251 uF

Could you confirm ?

VFD Choice

Hello !

I choose a 3kw spindle from deitech and I am looking for a VFD for it.

Hitachi doen't provide a compatible one in 230 V. So I looked in Delta vatalog and there is that could be a good choice. It's the VFD-037B :

That VFD should work fine for a spindle.

Hitachi makes the WJ200-037LF which is similar.

Hello everyone !

I have found a problem with my DTS-24 spindle from deitech. It's a 380 V and my workshop is in 230V. My order is sent but Deitech is still building the steppers.

I sent an email to Claudia about this problem.

Here is my removable base table now finished ! :



I added some assembly elements from the the sketchup plan. If some one need, I can explain in detail.

Today I worked on the control box and I found this transformer in an old electrical box:





Prim : 220-380 V
Puis : 400 VA
Sec : 24 - 48 V

Can it can make the job for my 4 steppers (86HS9801) ?

Bonjour hardouin

Content de voir que des Francais se lancent dans l'aventure, je me sent un peu moins seul !! (J'ai lancé le projet il y a plus de 3 ans... et donné très peu de nouvelles)

J'ai terminé actuellement la structure (elle est démontable) et je vais attaquer la réalisation des rails.

It's true that French people are uncommon here !

I am also disappointed by all the ridiculous conflicts and ego battles that pollute the usinages.com forum. Nothing like that here. Every body work together ! It's the reason why I talk about my experience only here.

For your rails, I have just finished mine and I advise you to use a new grinding disk for each new rail.
