Mac,
Building a MM is more like a J3 Cub and stretching a doped frame than doing a TBO on a Falcon. You'll have fun and do fine. Welcome to the club. Sean |

First welds today - West ST Paul, MN
MY MM is started today. I received the lazer cut parts a few days ago.
Today the first welds were made. I live on a fixed income so progress will be in monthly steps, however I will enjoy the build a grate deal. |

Hey Mac,
I know just how you feel. I'm also living on a fixed income. So, I spaced out my purchases to fit in the budget. I even broke my FactoryMation order into two parts...the parts needed for the Control Box and the parts needed for the Safety Systems. I had to pay two shipping charges, but the monthly costs were lower. Another idea, is that you can space the purchase of the OM Stepper Motors. You can buy one to test the Control Box, Computer, PMDX and Gecko's on all axes...and then later purchase the other 3. You do not have to have Stepper Motors on ALL the Gecko's to test one of them. Happy building. Make sure you share your progress with us by posting pictures. |

Rails two short gantry
I have the gantry and Y car all welded up.
I however did not order the y rail with enough length for the skate over run. IN THE ENTRUST OF KEEPING THE GANTRY TUBES SQUARE i CUT BY HAND TO A SCRIBED LINE AND THEN USED THE GRINDER It work just as well to weld the Angle iron. I only have to buy back one mistake 2 x 2 1/2 this time 8'pice Gantry all welded and Y car is all welded and backer strips are made just waiting for new angle. |

Back to work after the acsedent " event "
I has been tome time that I have not been able to work and I am able to get off the pot so to speak. Up date, I have the gantry and the y car welded some time ago no pics at this time on that. The heave work and welding will be some time off yet.
I did get my order from fractorymation, ( for got some things ) It is on the living room floor which will be my work room for now. Still to come is power supply and the drives, motors. I think I will use the 540. I am a little worried about about the voltage the motors want 47V, 540 not to exceed 50V, how far down do I go so the spikes don't hit 50+? At any rate I am back at it!! I don't know it I have this Pic thing right or not didn't rotate MAC Well I didn't get the pic Last edited by MAC2009; Fri 12 August 2011 at 23:48.. |

An explanation is in order here
I was in evolved in a in a crash in 1990 June 18th 10:30 AM !!! The operating room is well knowing to me I have been there 10 times now and 4 after I started the MechMate. Each time I think It will be the last. I am not the type to give up so I will keep at it. I have been here all the time reading and planing then I find a new thread or some thing new comes along. There is an huge amount of information here to go through and with all the time I spent reading
there is much more to see. I don't think one could set down fresh at this forum and read full time for a month and read every thread. Try pic again |

Welcome back, MAC!
The G540 is conservatively engineered; there are two factors to pay attention to: the maximum ratings of the mosfets on the G250X drivers inside, and the cooling requirements. If you run the G540 near its limits, it will need a heatsink and/or a fan. The G540/G250X drivers use 60V mosfets; Geckodrive has left a little headroom with it's 50V specification. It is not at all uncommon to run a G540 on a 48V power supply; I have two of them running on such supplies. Power is pretty reliable where I am, I suppose if it were really wild I might back off a little, but I've had no problems. |

it is good to know there is a fudge factor

Anteck power supply
this power supply with 48v dc unregulated and 12v dc regulated for prox relays.
There is no contaneity (cant spell connection between) between negative terminals and the chaise or even between the two negative terminals. I was planing to connect negs to a common ground, this would also connect the chaise to the common ground as it should be?? As they are would this set up a couple of ground loops .It seems the regulator boards should be made common at the supply and with the chaise at the power supply MAC |

power though
NO it would not, as to Gerald's analogy branches of a tree if line in ground is the trunk next common plate then out to the regulators???
I stay up way to late and think to hard no mater how much time I spend reading here I still haven't got to a point that I have enough info( never happen)!! MAC |
