Bugger off!
Let's rather talk rugby in Kiwi land this morning! Hey, long time AWOL friend, how is life treating you? |

We are always happy to congratulate one colony who have sporting success over another colony, but surely it's what happens in the mother land that matters most.
I have been AWOL to long. My experiences (our experiences?) on another Forum rather made me steer away from exposing my ideas and thoughts in public! But, I have outgrown the Shopbot!! So now its time to get down and dirty with a Mechmate!! And a Spindle! I guess you can call me a wimp, waiting until your good self and others have ironed out all of the snags! I will send more tomorrow, for I will surely have time as there will be no cricket to listen to! Nice to be back in the fold. Mike |

Jeesh Mike, a spindle at last??
We sold the gantry (and parts above) of the original ShopBot, with its controller for more than it cost us. Now we are selling the whole machine in that room, with the Makita router (it is still going) as soon as its replacement is ready. The replacement is much bigger - the room gets torn down. Agnes and her broom are now redundant. I also doubt there will be cricket tomorrow |

I do find it astonishing in a serious forum such as this, dedicated to the finest CNC machine design ever, that you should want to discuss anything as petty as cricket!!
Although, in all humility (me? humility?) do have to say your lads did themselves proud!! (I leave for UK in a few hours, will be looking for real MechMate stuff on my return ) |

Ok, So cricket and rugby seem to be pretty popular in your neck of the woods. I was just wondering if anyone over there played hockey at all?
ok start the flaming. |

Hockey is mostly played by the ladies - in skirts.
|

Also NETBALL ...some sort of basketball ?

Yeah, if they had to wear all that padding then those sports would probably die. Out here people are poor and go for sports that do not require a lot of kit/equipment.

This is the warmup before the hockey game .The girls are doing it to ,they dont wear skirt .Here if it is not on ice...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvFNJ...eature=related

That would mean the ladies are tougher than the boys?

Correction: More men than women play "field" hockey in South Africa - see this page: http://www.wphockey.org.za/
The really tough men play rugby - also without padding and helmets. Normand, most youtubes refuse to open on my computer - flash message "video no longer available". I know the message is not correct, but that is what I see most of the time. |

Here is a picture New sport suicide down hill ice skating, not as gracefull as surfing ,what else to do when every thing is frozen? |

Gerald,
Im not sure how I would like the game without the ice, puck and frostbite. You lucky guys probably dont have to worry much about frostbite right? |
#19
|
|||
|

Normand, all that kit is colourful and makes a nice show, but what are the dangers? No reports of injuries because direction of travel is at a tangent to the ice. Dramatic.....but safe!
(I got the youtube open on this computer) Heath, here in Cape Town suburbia there is no risk of frostbite. However, in the middle of the city is a 1100 m (3600ft) mountain on which it can snow in any month of the year. People die of exposure up there. |

Around here, some of the guys and gals race garden tillers.

Gerald it might be safe tangent and all but I would rather play a game of criket before trying that ,ice is hard water.
Doug do they run those tiller on nitro ,I could not figure it before I saw the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMICRlQGsGE Last edited by normand blais; Tue 05 August 2008 at 18:20.. |

Normand,
In Arkansas they probably use moonshine. |
#23
|
|||
|
|||
Normand: I think they run some of them on alcohol. Don't know about nitro but I do know that the winners aren't using standard motors. This year, the winning tiller looked like it had a Harley Davidson motorcycle engine on it.
Heath: I think the tiller operators run on moonshine. |

Well Normand, this is only soft water, but there is a hard board in that big washing machine with a guy in a soft suit. Even if the board doesn't break a few ribs, that "soft" water still dislocates joints or bursts eardrums. And on some days there are sharks in there as well . . . .

Gerald,
They haven't lost anyone during a competition from the sharks have they? They just like to add a level of fear! |

Gerald I bow to you, you guys are the nuttest . Where do I sign up to play grass hockey with the girls

I will tell you after our daughter stops playing it.
It is not that South Africans are the nuttest (the competitors in these events come from your end of the world) . . . . . we just offer the craziest venues with the least lawyers. You are allowed to be nuts out here. Here is a nice 216m [708ft] bungy jump . . . . . (Hennie lives near there) |
