Plug Tails (instead of dovetails)
Dovetails more trouble than they're worth?
This isn't a new idea, it's been done before, but not with a CNC router as far as I know. These were cut with a 1/4" straight bit. The "pins" side was cut with the panel held vertically at the end of the table. The biggest challenge is registering zero in precisely the right location. |

Jeff the joint looks good. When you have access to the side like your doing the imagination can run wild.
Now for dovetails have a look at this thread starting at post 9. http://www.mechmate.com/forums/showthread.php?t=477 |

I guess there's nothing new under the sun. The joint above is called a "pin and scallop" or "Knapp" joint.
It was invented by Charles Knapp in 1867. http://www.antiqueweb.com/articles/a..._dovetail.html |
