I have to say that the vac holddown using the wet/dry vac has been really helpful that I first posted here. I am almost done with my vac box design to have a standard unit that can be used in multiple applications. I don't need an entire table but I do need it from time to time.

On a side note, I am finally kicking the laziness out of me.

So I finally figured out how to turn the image representation get both grain orientations on Aspire. I figured it was an image that they were using for a texture and they are located in ProgramData Vectric folder. I just edited the image with GIMP (that is the program I use but any image manipulation software will work) by rotating the image 90° and saved the file with a name that represented the new orientation. Now I can see better how it will look after the part is carved in the grain orientation I will cutting the part.

I am like you Pete. I'll need some form of vac hold down for some things I plan on cutting but don't (at the moment) need the whole table. Interested in your generic vac solution.

If you have the work for it , do it.
If you want something to do , do it.
Or just do it.

I also have a vacuum box halfway functional based loosely on the Black Box Source thread over at Shopbot forums. (Halfway because I have not bought the additional 2 motors yet) Since most of my work is small, every motor is independently controlled with ball valves on each motor to a filter box before going to a holddown jig. This way I can use only the amount of vacuum that is required. I do not use a full spoilboard holddown as some of you here are doing. I also use this inline with an old wet/dry vac bottom canister with a drywall dust bag and CV06 Mini cyclone for vacuuming up the floor. Only one motor is needed for that.

Every year I say I am gonna draw up an Easter Egg holder and every year passes. Today I decided to do it. I will post or send the files if you would like them. It is designed around 0.25" material with 0.002" clearance. I added extra support as the store bought ones always seem to sag if the eggs are left on them for an extended period of time. I haven't cut it yet so there may or may not be some issues to resolve. This is the draft render from Rhino 6 so the cutout with a 1/8" bit will have a rounding effect on some parts. I have previewed it in Aspire and if I want a little more detail you can use a 1/32" bit or scroll saw for fine points.

Just have to say this forum thread just saved me a lot of troubleshooting time. My modbus wasn't starting up my spindle. Looked back through my build history and found one setting was disabled. Don't know how it happened but saved a lot of guessing.
