Joe, the racks Frallan is using (and I) are not top notch quality and I noticed they are a bit 'sticky', a pinion doesn't run smooth over at.
Frallan, what I did is I got a bit of liquid 'sand paper', the liquid is used to sand pistons for cars and I put it on my rack and run the machine over it some time. This will 'sand' the rack/pinion to make it run more smooth. This way it made my pinion feel less 'sticky'. When I am going to get my belt reduction I will get 32tooth pinions, i think they are better, 22 is a bit to small I am afraid (or just bad quality racks, but for the price.......). After cleaning I put a little bit of oil on the rack to make it run more smooth. After it I have been doing a MDF job without just collection (Hatchoe.......) and the racks looked just fine after it. About spindle control, I think somebody wrote that and I have seen it on the EMC2 forum/IRC channel or mailing list. Google is your friend! |

Frallan,
I printed the outline on a A4 sticker and then cut them out by hand. Took me less then a hour on the kitchen table to get it done. May be not as beautiful as printed, but at least it works. You cab also buy some cutting knives and mount it on the MM |

Geeez! Is this video realtime!?!?! http://www.vimeo.com/10774348 What size bit was being used? Also in the dry run and figure 8 video,... what was all the grinding noise? Other than that I cant get over how cool these things sound when operated After I build my MechMate Im goin to build a MechWarrior

its realtime, 3mm tool.
The grinding noise is due to the rack and pinion not being top notch But after running some time now they sound less and less, so its just a matter of "running in". |

The size is 2750x1630, due to the fact I wanted to be able to get it inside too
Not really much to add, will be adding proper dust collection and some nice way of fastening for work pieces. |

Frallen #57: Good job! Welcome to the club. Machine looks great and the new dust foot looks really good. Which design did you use?

Got tired of fastening the way I used to at first so I finally got my ass up and prepared for proper ways of fastering materials. Will be leveling the table tomorrow and prepare the spoilboard for the new way
Meanwhile I got a nice "pendant" working via EMC2s' hal. Cheap and works very well http://vimeo.com/11559249 |
