I don't think you should have any speed loss since you were using the 7 to 1 gear drives, you will still have the same ratio, torque etc. so why would your motors have to turn faster?...

that will hold up to the heat no problem, a car in the sun gets hotter than the motors will.

you do not need to worry about the belt wrap on the pulleys yeah I know it is less than what is recommended but...
