ditto on what Brad said. I have a good deal of flex on the smaller dia bits when cutting. 5/16 (8mm) or larger seem to always yield better results for me.

I would recommend allowing for the tail stock to be movable (like slide)

I used Unistrut welded open channel up and bolted the tail stock down to move to accommodate different part lengths.

See if you can swap the x and y drives to check if the signal path is working upto the gecko.

Anything is possible with electrical failure. The geckos have a fuse that is replaceable.

I went back and watched the video. It took me a second to look at the brown machine in motion, but you are right. The router is on the opposite side of the y axis drive motor end of the car....
