OK I was thinking the drilled hole on the pinion end would weaken the shaft. Removing 1/2 the dia. possibly right at the hub end of the pinion. Just a fleeting thought.

You mentioned early in this thread The G540 can be used with the two wire prox switches. Can they be used in series?

What size is the Z steper

The lazer kit I have has a Z mounting plate for NEMA 23. You are all talking about NEMA 34s for all the steppers. If I use a NEMA 23 at the Z would I not need two power supplys?
