I don't think you should have any speed loss since you were using the 7 to 1 gear drives, you will still have the same ratio, torque etc. so why would your motors have to turn faster?...

that will hold up to the heat no problem, a car in the sun gets hotter than the motors will.

you do not need to worry about the belt wrap on the pulleys yeah I know it is less than what is recommended but...

if you can build the rest of the machine you can assemble the drives, I know that there is the fear of the unknown, but you have to get past that and you will see...

and it says that they are rated for 130 ft lbs. per 1/8 of belt width, which puts the breaking strength at 390...
