If it shifts after using high strength loctite, either you don't have enough area on the threads (too small a diameter or too thin a wall) or you haven't cleaned the threads on the pinion and screws...

I've just trashed 5 pinions trying to drill them concentric using a good drill press a vice, a vice and clamps, a vice clamps and accurately centered pinion.

I've just welded up my racks today, joining a 2m to a 1m length.

Straight forward, just chamfer the ends so you get a good root weld.

I'm using linear rails so I had to drill mine every 300mm...
