Dan, how are you getting 380 Volts? I wouldn't expect the VFD to boost the voltage.

It sounds to me like you are looking at instantaneous peak output measurements on the VFD, but averaged draw on...

Kobus, I believe you actually could run the 2.2kW Chinese spindle with the Omron VFD - with a corresponding loss of power.

The HuanYang VFD that I experienced had no safety margins and shoddy...

Kobus, in the design I pointed to above, you would replace the MOSFET with one that meets your needs (N-Channel). The IRF840B seems appropriate. As Ken points out, you simply need a source of pwm...

Here's a design (http://www.dprg.org/tutorials/2005-11a/index.html) (I haven't tested it, obviously!)

You'll need a motor power supply up front of it to produce 200V DC for the motor, and then a...

Actually, Marius, that looks like it is a PWM circuit. Specifically, it uses 2 X the line frequency. The Triac turns off every 1/2 cycle as the AC voltage crosses zero. It doesn't turn on again...

Good circuit, but the motor in question is DC, not AC. You could add a bridge rectifier to the output, perhaps?

It's worth noting that the RepRap people have long been directly interpreting a simplified GCode in their microcontrollers. Of course, they're using relatively large and powerful microcontrollers...

robotdigg, I think you misunderstand how Mach3 works. Do you have any evidence that Mach3 works with CANbus or RS232 or RS485?

Unless you can produce a demonstration of that configuration, please...

Using the step/direction version of these drivers and mounting inside the control box is indeed very similar to using Geckos, and eliminates the concerns raised (noise on long wires for the step and...

On reflection, when I think of examples of various turned columns, those with uniform diameters all seem pretty "masculine"; those with tapers or bulges become more "balanced" or in some cases...

Interesting. Not clear to me how much rotational speed it's bearings can take, however, or what the runout will be.

A random thought: certain types of timing belts, like HTD belts, mesh well with themselves. So, you could potentially cut a large disc, glue a piece of timing belt around it, and create an...
