Ross - maybe you got the wrong aluminum alloy, usually folks hear swear by 6061 T6 grade for good machining

All, when I was perplexed why my machine was missing steps,, I found out that a friend of mine had the same problem on his plasma machine, and in both case - it was the ready made parallel port cable...

yes I had problems with high resistance cables...
yes I had problems with high resistance cables and a 0.1 to 0.3 ohm resistance is what you should look for.
