Ok I had already thought about the angle block...

Ok I had already thought about the angle block this would attach to but think about the effort to re shim.... You would know the offset but when would you move the Z, height of the gantry rails...

Datum is jst the "average" of the path that is drawn as the trolley is pulled via a sting gently from one end to the other
I dont think the position of the laser is important as the setup...
