Look at the diameter of the driving pinion when you use 1/2" pitch . . . . where will you find the torque, or space to turn that 3" diameter monster?

Half inch pitch teeth will definitely not work. Nema 23's are also dodgy (even with 3-4mm pitch rack).

Hi Martin, 35 teeth metric module 1 is a good choice. If the pinions are quite cheap, I suggest you get some 25 teeth pinions as well. Then you can choose according to the materials you cut, speeds...

Your gear pitch is definitely metric module 1.5. In the spreadsheet (Gear Speed Steps Freq Calculator.xls) you downloaded, change Module Number to 1.5. It should work quite well.

The recommended gears for those motors, using the metric system, is for all 4 pinion gears to be 36 tooth, module 1. (There is no reason for the Z to have a smaller gear. Module 1.5 gear will not run...
