Heath, how about using a kettle, hairdryer, bedside lamp, anything with a standard plug on the end of the cord.......then touch the plug pins...

You posted at the same time as me.
Looks like you purchased a transformer and not a power supply.
You need a capacitor after the rectifier before you will see the 1.41 (not 1.44)...
