Anyway, if you are really as precision as I imagine you are, you will still Shim the...

Go for MS plates. 3mm thk is more then ample, actually 2mm would do. IF you are only making one set, you can hand fabricate with the use of holesaw & power grinder from scrap metal lying around..

T5 belt seems big but it will work.
MDF is only good for short term fix. I would suggest properly seal the wood with a few coat of paint.
With 3:1 belt reduction, you can use your 30T is actually...

Gearbox torque rating as the name implies is the rated torque the gearbox can handle. I reckon the gears &/or other parts of the gearbox will not live long with higher torque even though it can...

300 seem right. if you are not doing 3D carving, just 2D stuff, you can even live with 100~200. Every little bit helps. that is what I would think.

Not suspecting the PSU. higher V means higher top speed, which isn't you problem now.

The only thing you had not tried is tuning the AN882. Maybe this is where the issue lies.

I had the older...

Actually, when selected correctly, the air spring assist the motor to handle heavier load.

Sometimes, the wiring diagram can be wrong too... that would be the last thing we should suspect.

OK,...

Even with 30T, this is odd.

Still couldn't pin point the problem but I am certain that the load is too heavy for the motor,

You also need to ensure the coils phase is correct when connected...

Could had been too strong spring for the y car. Nothing much to get concern with..
BTW,did you set the correct Max. Current for Z?
Or you should consider parallel coil for higher torque.

the "free" thing to do now is re-tune the motor to lower acceleration & velocity, write a short G-code doing repetitive up-down for the tuning purpose.
At least get you to continue cutting.

24T pinion will give 25% more torque then 30T, should improve thing a tat. and cost very little time & money.

Did you do motor tuning for Z? you get loose steps?

That isn't right.... the shaft should lock-up solid.

IMHO, unless broken, all brand/make stepper motors makes no different with MM.

Sound very much like a bad motor. Unlucky :( ....

You ran out of hair to pull yet? LOL

1) Gas spring too strong.
2) to much load on the Z-axis motor, i.e. too heavy
3) 24T worked for me, not 30T. 24 T has higher mechanical ratio.
4) add Z-axis...

A friendly reminder.
Please do not expect belt reduction will solve all your misery.
With belt reduction, you still need sanding for very smooth finishing, just lesser elbow grease.
