Here we are!!!.
Today we finish cutting the rails (after some 20 cutting disks!!!!), we will begin grinding the angles.

In the pictures below we show how are we doing things.

We also begin to orginize the electronics, as you can see in the pictures. We know that round motors are old tech, but those motors are the only thing we have, so we are thinking about using a belt reduction scheme.

Comments are very welcome.

working on the rails !!!!

Here we are again, this week we will work on the rails (X and Y), we tried tu use the classicalk skate but we found it not so easy to work with.
We decided to use a small CNC amchine to grind the rails, the result were not so bad, as you can see in the following pictures.
We also posted a small video, this is the link

We are on our way !!!!

smreish Tue 30 November 2010 06:18

Looks like the small version of how Shopbot once made the rails for their machines before moving to the pre-ground, hardened rails in use today. Innovative.

jessyjames Tue 30 November 2010 08:07

Now I have seen everything !!! Some of you guys are so innovative and lazy at the same time it amazes me... :) My grandpa told me one time before he passed away that if you want to find a quick way to do something just watch a lazy guy and you will find what you have been searching for..

Great job and thanks for the video..

Regards,

James

Today we test the movementg of the gantry, all of the 4 bearing make unifor contact with the rail, the gantry is properly leveled. It's running safe and easy. Tomorrow we will fix with bolt the X rails properly and begin working on Y rails. We began to work on the control box also!!!!!!
Comments and observations are welcome.

weposted a new samll video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAnIDJT6lTs

Some more advances!!

After a while (10 days without electricity) finally we are testing the Powe supply and the Y axis movement, it was nice to find out the correct settings on EMC2 to make the motor run smooth and make the displacement match what we want the y axis to move.
We attach another video showing our latest work.

Happy new year for everyone in this forum !!!!!!!

domino11 Sun 02 January 2011 22:20

10 days without electricity? What was the problem?

rceja Sun 02 January 2011 22:28

we update from 117 VAC to 220 VAC and the CFE (electricity company in mexico) delayed that time to make the change, but we are again moving!!!

rceja Thu 06 January 2011 10:53

Hi Domino11, i am wondering if these motors would be OK for the MM
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm...olesalers.html

I saw them recently .

Saludos desde Guadalajara!!!!!!

Kobus_Joubert Thu 06 January 2011 11:54

Sorry to chip in here rceja, but this looks a bit expensive for those type of motors. They look similar to my 34HS9801 motors from www.motionking.com that I bought from China (ok not dual shaft and no keyway).
If I remember correctly they were about $50.00 a piece plus transport.

rceja Thu 06 January 2011 12:19

Thanks Kobus, these are 4 motors for 400 U,S. Shipping included to Mexico.
How much did you pay for the shipping of your motors?.

I have been looking some pages and i saw that shipping is something between 62 - 74 U.S. per motor (DHL is 68). the page i showed you is for 4 motors shipping inlcluded.

maybe is good idea to ask MotionKing the cost for shipping to Mx.

Kobus_Joubert Thu 06 January 2011 12:29

Sorry only saw free shipping to Unites States....did not see the drop down menu. When I went in there I also saw that DHL shipping to South Africa is also FREE.
Like my daddy told me long long time ago....nothing is for FREE.
IF I remember correctly the motors were about $48 or $50 each. leaves another $50 per motor for transport. Cannot remember the total cost ,but I think it works out to be about the same. Drop email to motionking...I think it's sales AT motionking DOT com. Mr Media Lee will sort you out quickly.
Hope it helps

isladelobos Thu 06 January 2011 16:46

Saludos.
