Welcome aboard. Get the plans and start planning. The plans are parametric enough so you can make it with a cutting/working area pretty much whatever size you want.

Where do I get the plans from ?

servant74 Mon 02 March 2015 22:38

Go to
MechMate CNC Router Forum > Miscellaneous hardware and software > Downloads

They cost about $100, but well worth it. MetalHead owns the rights (and this site) and is a good guy.

I a going to build a small one first does anyone
No where sells complete kits from

Metalhead sells some parts and kits for portions, but not entire kits. There are several already built and running in AU and NZ. You might directly contact a couple of them to find where they got many of the parts and pieces.

I understand shipping from the USA (and duties if any) is a project killer.

If you want to make a little smaller table, that is OK because that seems to be the less difficult part to build. Build as bit a Y axis trolley as you think you want for a full size rig, to keep down the pain of upgrading in the future (unless you want to just build an entire additional rig! Same for the Z-Axis, but that is much less materials than the others axis.

Unless you have a space constraint, the cost to build bigger (X vs Y) seems to be minimal. Your largest expense will still be your time.

MechMate CNC Router Forum > The Market Place > Global Suppliers Update

Check here for suppliers that might be better for you.

Welcome aboard !!! If you get the plans and start reading the build threads, you can figure our how to source what you need in AU. We have a person who supplies laser cut part kits in AU.

I'd be careful using the word kit without adding what type of kit.
I read that as being an all inclusive kit with everything included, some assembly required.

servant74 Wed 04 March 2015 14:48

You are right, need to ask your supplier exactly what is being sold. Most of these kits started out being the laser cut parts. Some are accurately bent (if you are lucky).

These are not 'complete kits' by any means will all parts included.

The parts not included are normally anything related to motors, electronics, rails, springs, shims, bolts, or bulk metal.

All the reputable suppliers will tell you exactly what to expect from them. But it is up to you to ask to ensure there is no disappointment due to misunderstanding.

I agree - I fixed it!!! :)

Whew. Glad that wasn't taken as #101 being overly critical...;)
