DoubleCad

There is a new "FREE" 2d cad program available . . .

It is called DOUBLECAD . . . .

Go to doublecad.com and download for free . . . .

It is perfect clone of AutoCAD LT 2009. Compared to AutoCAD LT 2009, it does everything and more . . . . The commands are even the same . . .

Their pro version is only $600.00 . . . .

But for DFX out, you can not beat it . . . .

Anybody actually have success in downloading it? I had to fill in a lot of questions on their website, but there has been no response in 2 days.

sailfl Sun 12 April 2009 12:39

Gerald,

I downloaded it and installed but have not looked at it much.

jhiggins7 Sun 12 April 2009 13:02

Gerald,

Yes, I filled out the form, received and E-Mail with a download link, a Serial Number and Activation Code.

I downloaded the software and activated it.

It looks a lot like AutoCad. It even read a DWG file (at least a simple one).
I haven't done much with it.

Regards,
John

John, I guess they filter their applications. I probably did not look like a sales prospect to them.

sailfl Mon 13 April 2009 02:11

Gerald,

I don't believe they filter their downloads but more likely they my not allow outside the USA.

I would suggest sending an email to either of these addresses and explain your problem.

intl@imsidesign.com
CustomerSupport@imsidesign.com

I am sure they want to expand their customer base. The more people that have the product the more that will buy the Pro product. Too many people don't want to pay what AutoCAD cost.

Gerald D Mon 13 April 2009 03:01

Nils, I don't plan to beg for anybody's product. They have all my info and can call me if they wish, but I won't be calling them. Maybe they need a day back at the office after a long weekend to consider the non-American applications. . . .

Just went to the website, filled in the questions, pressed submit and the link mail was in my inbox. Downloaded files almost immediately - will install later at home and give it a try.

Gerald D Wed 15 April 2009 04:05

Okay, so it wasn't my location. Will fill in the online questions and submit again.

Hi Registered twice - but did not get the link for download!

Gerald D Fri 17 April 2009 21:55

My second attempt didn't work either.

Alan_c Sat 18 April 2009 02:17

Installed and taken for a short spin - first impressions are favourable, never had much luck trying to get going with AutoCAD (maybe because too set in my ways with DesignCAD) but this interface seems much more intuitive and I may end up working faster? will need to play with it a lot more before deciding to change over.

I've downloaded a copy and it looks pretty good. From a very brief first impression, it looks much like my copy of AutoCAD LT. I would suggest that everyone who can download it give it a try. (Unfortunately software distribution is one area that is controlled by the Great White Father in Washington, D.C., so this software probably falls under some kind of government restriction.)

From their forum, their outgoing mails are often classified as spam:
http://forums.doublecad.com/index.php?topic=427.0

My normal mail system doesn't keep suspected spam - it dumps it automatically.

So I tried yet again, to my gmail account, and gmail treated their reply as spam. But I could retrieve it from the spambox.

Same here G'

Gerald D Sat 18 April 2009 11:21

Okay, got it installed now.

As a heavy AutoCAD LT user, my first impression is that DoubleCad is not even close to AutoCAD LT. It looks more like the TurboCad that I had used a little before - which is not surprising, because it is from the TurboCad stable.

But that doesn't mean it is bad. Give it a go, it installs very easily.

Gerald D Sat 18 April 2009 11:37

It looks as if DoubleCad doesn't work in the Z-dimension, ie. it is pure 2D in X & Y coords only. That kills it for us. (AutoCad LT, despite popular (mis)perception, has always functioned in 3D)

sailfl Sat 18 April 2009 13:15

Gerald,

That is right it is only X, Y. You have to buy their pro to get 3D which I think is going for $695 USD.
