Seeing as though the other guys are doing such wonderful 3D work, decided I have to start somewhere.

Cool Alan. I've wanted to make that same shelf unit too. Looks great!!

That is 3D work without direct-drive motors - not bad :)

Nice stuff!

Kobus_Joubert Thu 20 August 2009 23:15

Nothing wrong with our direct motors. Well done Alan

Alan,
How do you paint the MDF. I have tried several ways but always end up with the cut edges dull. Do you prepare the wood before you paint?

smreish Tue 20 October 2009 05:49

Marius,
I have had pretty good success using an automotive grade hi-fill primer on the MDF edges. It ends up sealing the edges and finishing as well as the front surface. It's not a cheap option, but works for us when that quality is a priority. Hi fill primer is also available in your "run of the mill" rattle can in the hardware store as well.

Gerald D Tue 20 October 2009 05:58

Our local auto body shops know that as "spray filler"

hennie Tue 20 October 2009 06:10

Marius try high body white primer from Chemspec.First give the mdf a good sand and then put some 2 coats which should do the trick

Thanks Hennie, the Gauteng branch is around the corner from me.
