Textured/colored mdf

Hey everyone. I read something here a while back about Gerald_D's son, who has a company.

On his website he had some great links to some colored and textured wood. I think it was MDF.

I can't seem to find that same post/link. Anyone remember who Gerald's son is, and what his website is?

Thanlks Big G, need more time to absorb... &
How about those lovely wave form pattern? they are not randomely generated, are thay?

johnchristensen Tue 26 October 2010 08:38

Yeah, I'd like to learn more about those patterns too!

Oh, and that Brain character from the other thread, does he represent vectric? Is that the software he is using?

Gerald D Tue 26 October 2010 09:29

The "Brain" character from the other thread is Brian Moran, one of the co-founders (and brains) of Vectric. (He worked for the Artcam house before).

Sean and I will say very little about the generating of those patterns, except that they take many hours of conceptualizing, programming, trial and error. :)

Alan_c Tue 26 October 2010 11:20

Hey Sean, maybe you should give your Dad a call sometime...:)

I knew its not going to be easy :D

I have the misconception that these patterns are generated by "ready made" software... Well, I'm wrong :p

I'm currently making sample texture panels to show local cabinet shops. It does take some time to generate the patterns. With Rhino and Vcarve Pro, its not difficult at all, but does require allot of time.

Interesting that the conceptualizing gets allot easier late in the evening after a couple ( ) of pints.

...and customers wonder why intellectual property or other creative works are so darn expensive!

Have fun with the "tile". I know from experience that what your doing is no super easy task.
