The free version of cabinet parts pro looks interesting.
The full version is not that bad price wise either.

darren salyer Thu 23 May 2013 06:05

That's one on my list...
I should just crawl before I walk, but I'd really like to have one program that can do 3-D renderings for clients as well.
It is very counter productive designing in one program for a presentation rendering and then having to use another for the cut files....
What I'm doing now is probably the slowest way possible, but I'm learning a lot.
At 48 years old, and a carpenter my entire career, I never dreamed I'd be woodworking in three decimal points.....

Robert M Thu 23 May 2013 15:12

" I never dreamed I'd..... "
See.....dreams to come true :p
:D

darren salyer Thu 23 May 2013 15:27

I guess the correct term is "to three decimal places". :)
EasyCab
CabinetPlanner
and CabinetPartsPro
are currently on my short list for cost vs. value....

pblackburn Thu 23 May 2013 18:28

I know what you mean. I had drawn it up in cad in 3d with the layout of the room then had to explode each and export the dxf of the cabinets to bring into Aspire to layout. There has to be an easier why but I haven't found it yet.

Darren, How do you tint the epoxy? I love looking at the tables but I am a little timid of the process?

Axel1966 Mon 24 June 2013 00:33

Hi, I use Fine Arts oil paint to tint the epoxy.
You have a wider range of tints and subtil or vivid colors.
The oil paint keep the Epoxy transluscent.
If you want an opaque tint, add some marble dust.

The tint and the dust may be mixed first with the hardener.
When the coumpound is uniform, mix it with the resin. ;)

darren salyer Mon 24 June 2013 06:11

Axel is exactly right about the process.
If you need more color than 1 pour will provide, mix the color into enough part B for the entire job.
Believe me, if you can build a MM, you can do this.

darren salyer Mon 24 June 2013 06:15

First kitchen with plywood cabinet boxes cut 100% on MM with vacuum holddown.

Nice job Daren !
How type of joinery did you used : dadoes ? rabbets ? hardware ?

darren salyer Mon 24 June 2013 15:55

The boxes are put together out of parts cut similar to post 268 above.
Then I drill them on my Kreg jig and pocket screw them together.

javeria Mon 24 June 2013 20:02

Neat , nice and Beautiful Daren!

Andrew_standen Tue 25 June 2013 03:05

Looks good, so good that my wife already has me down to do ours now !
Andrew

pblackburn Tue 25 June 2013 19:34

Darren, is that new construction or remodeled existing? Reason I ask is it looks like everything in the room is square and level and you did not have a lot of shimming. Looks good though.

Regnar Tue 25 June 2013 19:47

Daren,
Just out of curiosity why didn't you split the Pantry and surround the Fridge?

Looks like a Pots and Pans drawer setup to. I loved mine and only wished I added another one for plates and pyrex.

darren salyer Tue 25 June 2013 19:59

The house is about 25 yrs. old but everything is pretty plumb level and square.
I presented a plan with a split pantry, but this is the one the homeowner chose.

pblackburn Tue 25 June 2013 20:03

Boy I feel old, I remember when a Pantry was a room!!! :o

Regnar Tue 25 June 2013 20:31

For some reason I thought this was for yourself. Either way the quality of work looks good. They should be very happy with them for years to come.

darren salyer Wed 26 June 2013 06:22

I'll get some more pics as we progress.
Seriously looking at cabinet software now, looks like we'll be doing another in the same neighborhood.

WFY Thu 27 June 2013 04:45

Cabinet software

Buzz #60
One software that you might want to look at is Mozaik. It is very good for cabinet joinery and construction with different material thickness. For CNC it rents for $125.00 a month.

Made by the same people who invented 'Cabinet Vision'.

darren salyer Thu 27 June 2013 20:06

Hmmm,
I HATE the concept of a monthly rental fee on software, but I poked around the Mozaik site and I really like what I'm seeing.
Design, layout, pricing, cutlists, panel optimization and g-code output all in one is tempting.

pblackburn Thu 27 June 2013 20:21

That is really a time based decision. How much time and money is it going to generate for you, not how much it is going to cost you. If your main business is cabinets, it may very well be worth the cost. Only you will be able to tell as you know your numbers and we don't. Work it out on paper. Just like the bits that cost four times the price of a mid grade, they run better, faster. Last the same amount of time but more product out the door so more profit offsets the cost of the bit. I view software the same way.

Hope this helps.

darren salyer Thu 27 June 2013 20:30

I know.... I know.....
It was easier for me to shell out 2k for Aspire than swallow an ongoing $125/Mo.
Looking at the hours I spent drawing everything in Aspire, $125 is pocket change.
I just hate that it really isn't ever mine. Just my thought process....
If it was the same price as Aspire, I'd already own it.

Cutting 4 radius templates for the supplier I mentioned in post #4 a lifetime ago.
He now drops off a months supply of material, and I pull it off the rack to cut the templates he emails to me along with a PO. He picks them up next day, I email an invoice to them, they mail me a check.
Not sexy, but bread and butter work that will more than pay for the machine in time.

For those contemplating a build, things like this will happen with a little networking and some samples dropped at a few places, to "prime the pump".

timberlinemd Sat 13 July 2013 19:53

Here's another. Priced right and does DXF and has a optimizer.

darren salyer Sat 13 July 2013 21:01

I mentioned CabinetPlanner in post 274 as being on my shortlist, and then kind of forgot about it.
Thanks for the reminder, Steve.
I'll probably spring for it first of August, so I can get some time under my belt before the next kitchen starts.

darren salyer Sun 14 July 2013 20:00

Still waiting on backsplash tiles and cabinet handles, but essentially done for a while now....

Darren outstanding job you have done here. I appreciate the updates with this project.

Andrew_standen Tue 16 July 2013 12:53

Very nice work Darren
