Hi,

After a ton of procrastination I have finally worked up th gumption to get my mechmate started (that and I had to really point out the benefits of building a 4 x 8 to my sister/boss). We own a small music shop that does repairs on instruments/amps, specializing in accordions. I built a small desktop cnc machine a while back, thinking it would satiate the bug, boy was I ever wrong.:eek:

Anyways, I am about to get started on my build, so be ready for the questions. I tend to think that I am better then I am, and don't start asking for help til I have painted myself into a corner, so please be gently.:)

Hopefully any corner you manage to paint yourself into will have a computer in it so you can get to the forum, there's all kinds of great information here and if you can't find the answer somebody will probably come up with one quickly.

Ordered the laser part kits from Castone today. Looks like I am about to jump in head first. I have been kicking around ideas for the base table. I really like the table that Greg (bradyaero) made. I am kicking around away to make the height adjustment easier. Was kinda thinking of making some plates like bed frames used have (see attached), using 1/2 inch bolts instead of plain guide pins. That way I can loosen the bolts, grab a friend and adjust the height of the bed pretty quickly, then tighten the bolts again. There would be 3 of the brackets on each side. What do you guys think?

Have you considered just placing the table as low as you would ever want it, and then making a set of wooden boxes to space up to your upper working height?

Moving four boxes on or off the table could be a one man job, unless you store too much stuff (hint, hint) inside them.

That and storing them when they are not on the table I have to find a place to store em.:p

I purchased all the metal for the table today, and it arrives tomorrow. My laser cut parts are due to arrive on Monday, so it looks like I am finally on my way to a mechmate! :D

I see your parts have made it to AZ ,Time to start building that table.Looks like you will have them Monday.

I have been getting things organized for the build. Bought a bandsaw on Saturday. Working on making Aluminum templates for the drilling of the cross bearers and tabletop. And the dreaded cleaning of the work room :(

Considering this stepper for the build http://www.kelinginc.net/KL34H295-43-8B.pdf. I can get them even cheaper then the motionking motors, and they seem comparable. Already have the Gecko 203v drives and PMDX BoB. So that just leaves the power supply and other misc electrical stuff.

what's the laser parts kit going for these days at Castone??

Finished 2.5 years ago. Just to busy to get a serial >.<
 

I actually finished my build 2.5 years ago, and just neglected to get a serial due to being busy doing other things.

2.2 kw water-cooled spindle, Hitachi VFD controlled by Mach3 via Modbus.
Custom Z axis with Hiwin Linear Rails
Belt Drive reduction
V bearing rails from Superior mounted to aluminum
4x8 cutting area

I was wondering when I would see the 100 machine built and given a serial number since I finished my machine.
