Roto-moulded cyclone

Was looking for water tanks for my new house and came across this:

http://www.jojotanks.co.za/index.php...rt&Itemid=9999

It makes a lot of sense to rotomould a cyclone....should be fairly cheap. I will try and get a price soon.

Are they rotomoulded in countries other than South Africa?

Price R 1040 (incl. VAT & Deliv.) Equivalent about € 100 or US$ 130

tumutbound Wed 25 January 2012 03:14

Nothing like that produced in Australia and we have a LOT of tank makers.

I wonder what the freight would be from South Africa to Australia ...

Gerald D Wed 25 January 2012 03:57

For a one off, freight will be too much. But, for a container full it is probably about $1500 to $2000

tumutbound Wed 25 January 2012 04:04

Sounds cheaper to convince a local tank maker to tool up to make them.
I've had a good search here but can't find anything similar being made.

In the pic above, notice the 4 notches to drop into a square hole of stand.

Alan_c Wed 25 January 2012 05:53

Does anybody stock them in Cape Town?, the price seems right, would be nice to see one in the flesh as it were.

darren salyer Wed 25 January 2012 06:36

I'd love to have one of them to replace my Grizzly 5 HP 4 bag collector.

Gerald D Wed 25 January 2012 07:53

Alan, Jojo (in Worcester) told me they are not moulded/stocked in the Cape, but bring them down from Grobbelaarshoop when needed.

MetalHead Wed 25 January 2012 13:03

Darren - go here http://billpentz.com/woodworking/cyclone/index.cfm

Bill is on this forum. He has an authorized company selling them and members here have built some cool ones. If you have the Grizzly dust collector, you have a lot of the parts available for a cyclone build.

Of course I like the look of that $130.00 price tag :D .

Kobus_Joubert Thu 26 January 2012 00:30

Alan, you better take that deal. I contacted the factory and for R 911.00 excl I can go and pick up from factory.
Contacted my closed dealer (in Benoni ) and price will be R1138.50 incl.

darren salyer Tue 11 February 2014 19:32

These guys must not make them anymore. Link is dead.

pblackburn Sat 15 February 2014 21:26

Which link is dead Darren? ClearVue still makes them. Building your own is not that difficult out of metal and there is not as much static as you get with plastic.

darren salyer Sun 16 February 2014 06:25

The link in post 1 to the rotomolded one.

Alan_c Sun 16 February 2014 07:07

Its still listed on this page: http://www.jojotanks.co.za/index.php...etail?Itemid=0 but does not appear in their catalogue, probably only on special order...

darren salyer Sun 16 February 2014 15:20

Thanks, Alan. I was looking for a picture to show a friend.

Thinking about adding one of these with a drum before the HF collector.
Tired of emptying bags and trying to get new ones clamped on....
About 200 bucks to my door, we'll see....

Darren,

There was an article in Fine Woodworking March/April 2013. It however was a steel Super Dust Duty then.

I can tell you the Pentz cyclone design is amazing. I get very, very little dust at the filters to the point of saying non existent. Since my dc was 2 HP I had to build a 20 or 22 in. I opted for the 20in so I could upgrade to a 3HP later. My cost for the total upgrade was < $800.00 (sheet metal, filters, etc).

Point being is you can keep spending $1 a 1000 times and still have to spend $1000 later to get the performance you want.

But it did have a good review compared to the thein system.

darren salyer Sun 09 March 2014 11:21

I know, I know, Pete.
I'm just having a hard time wrapping my mind around all the seemingly variables with the Pentz cyclone.
A simple minded guy like me needs a "do this to get this result" kind of plan with the HF collector as a source.

servant74 Sun 09 March 2014 13:01

From what I see, you mainly need to figure out what blower motor (rpm and HP) you want to use (hopefully picked up cheap/free) and backtrack through his design spreadsheet to determine the right dimensions. ... Not saying it is easy, but a moderately efficient way to get-er-done.

All that being said, I haven't built one either :(
