Teflon Washers.....
 

I have had little or no succes in locating the Teflon Washers anywhere here in Denmark, does anyone have a link to where I can buy these.????

Kim almost any kind of slick plastic around 1/16" thick will work, just use a hole saw the right size and make them. It really doesn't matter if it comes from something round like a throw away food container.:eek::D I had an after thought ..... auto body filler (bondo) spreader

Thanx, I just thought it had to be teflon..
But I suppose that Nylon will do just as good then...

hi, i've got this problem too, i've solved it by making them by myself, i've used a special tool to cut 40 and 20 mm round in a orange juice bottle, stick with glue to obtain 2mm trikness then drill hole in it.

...I used Nylon and UHMW washers. Found them at the local Skycraft store.

Every MechMate builder should have a SkyCraft store in their back yard.

Lucky me...

I found a couple of rods of PTFE at work, put it in the lathe, and hey presto, 10 minutes later, I had 10 washers of each size needed...

As has been said already, nearly any plastic will do the job. Even a greased steel "fender" washer, with a big carrying area, will be okay. There is practically no movement there until things go wrong and the path of least resistance (or damage) is for the gantry/car to jump off the rails. Softish plastic is easier to adjust for a friction grip in the joint.

Note that a relatively big OD versus ID is needed to make a firm joint carried on a big area. Standard shaped wahers (where OD=2xID) are a bit too "narrow" in terms of carrying area.

I already have gotten hold of some nylon. I then turned the washers myself at work in the correct diameters... So this problem has been overcome.
