Would you care to post some larger pics on the Z ? I am trying to figure out what to do myself ( I am also doing my Z with bought linears), and curious to learn more from all kinds of different solutions I have seen on the MM to come up with my best solution.

Ivo :( why black and red

I must say I regret every second of painting my machine black and red as it always looks dusty even if not used for routing a day.
Complete white, gray, Blue or yellow in that order are my preferable colors from now on :)

Wed 12 June 2013, 09:07
I think, it's not problem. Because this machine is desinged for working and it's not decoration.
Ofcorse evryone has their opinion.

But thanks for warning!

I see you Modified the gantry raising it up a bit for clearance. Nice long table. Nice neat control box with 5 drivers. Your steppers look big !

Looks great ... I hope you will soon be making money with it !!!

ilmataat
Wed 04 June 2014, 21:04
Yes steppers are to big. In future i planed to change other 3 steppers also 878 oz. Right now are there 1600 oz x and y axis. Z axis have 878 oz stepper.

First cuts are maded half year ago. It maded so long for stair beams, whitch are main jobs for this macine.

Everything is preparated for 4 th axis. I made electicbox for 5 drivers. Just have to install lathe chuck and wiring.

Only problem is vibration now. But those 1600 oz stepers needs to run higher speeds. In low feed rate they vibrating. Or ther some other problem?

KenC
Wed 04 June 2014, 22:08
I suspect the motor vibration comes from the motor driver. High torque stepper motor do have this resonance short fall.
878 oz stepper motors are still too big, I use 640 oz direct drive without lost step for years.
Not that I oppose going way oversize, but just tot you might feel comfortable knowing.

Ivo... so machine is designed with long table to cut stair beams.
.... we call them stair stringers here in the USA

Thanks fo correcting... mine english is not bestest.
I use stair drawing's software and there it called Beams.

At the moment, about 10 stair detalis are cutted whit this machine.
Much easier then make it by hand and powertools. And also time and precision factor.

Thu 05 June 2014, 14:44
Other English speaking countries may call them something other than stringers.

Sometimes called stair horses ... especially if there is a beam between the outer beams (stringers) but I think the outside beams can be called horses also

I did not know there were softwares for cutting them on a router

How did you setup the tool for your lathe work on the CNC??

I know how the lathe part works, but the tool and toolpaths on your CNC when doing lathe work, how is that setup?
And the lathe tool it self, isthat just an ordinaly HSS tool for small cheap lathes?

Dust shoe is made plex glass and bursh for doors. Its aluminium profile with brushes. It's just bended same shape what plexglas is cuted. And its easely removable. Only 6 magnets hold it.

For lathe job, I have different mach settings. There are axis swaped.

But toolpaths make is intricate. Because i tested diffrent metal lahte softwares, but none makes such toolpath what i need.

I make draw toolpaths manualy.

because in lathe job, there no space to mistakes.
Whit matal lathe soft i broked mine knives.

Knives are hi quality HSSCo material. These are specified for automated copy lathes.
